Keith Tenniswood AKA Radioactive Man is a raw electro and techno legend. From humble but auspicious beginnings as live engineer for Andrew Weatherall’s Sabres of Paradise, he co-produced David Holmes’s classic Let’s Get Killed before properly teaming up with Weatherall to form Two Lone Swordsmen.
With the ball rolling, over the next decade and a half he went on to produce, collaborate with or remix Primal Scream, Spiritualized, Howie B, David Holmes,Stereo Mc’s, Lali Puna, St Etienne, Alter Ego, Calexico, Broadcast, Six by Seven, Dot Allison and Slam.
His FabricLive mix is one of the highlights of their catalogue, showing off his love of dub, punk, and raw analogue bleeps, clicks and booms.
His three Radioactive Man albums and many EPs – all crackers – form a fine body of work. When you then include the sonic mayhem he and Weatherall created across three classic Two Lone Swordsmen LPs, you have the work of a prolific and significant artist.

KASMs are London-based Rachel Mary Callaghan, Gemma Fleet, Scott R. Walker and Rory Brattwell. All four members have been other bands: Rachel was the singer in Sin o the East, along with Rory on guitar; Gemma was in London based grunge-pop band Wolfie; Scott was in an ethnic/improv band called Aum Sahib and Rory was in quite a few bands, the most well known being short-lived NME favorites Test Icicles.
I guess you could say KASMs sound is Punk/Deathrock but they coined the genre “Shriekbeat” to describe their music, which pretty much encapsulates the essence of what KASMs are all about. Taking in varied influences starting with dark, pulsating, rhythmic bands such as Trial, Crash Worship, Live Skull and better known dark 80s stuff such as Bauhaus and Death in June, they cite their sound as being more heavily skewed by recent Alternative American punk bands such as Subtonix, Nation of Ulysses and Six Finger Satellite.

Polly Scattergood is a rare talent, a musician who can make the disturbing sound delightful. She might sing on her eagerly anticipated debut album (out March 9th) about suicidal tendencies, sadness in the air, spitting on her French knickers and being called a whore, but she does so in such an idiosyncratically alluring, soft little-girl voice, one of ravaged innocence, and she places her startling images in such pretty pop contexts, that you can’t help being seduced.
Breaking out of the breaks scene with a grizzly low-end thumper of a sound, Sam Simpson aka Baobinga is rinsing soundsystems from Paris to Tel Aviv this month.
His freshest joint, ‘Sound Of Ghetto Jackin’ combines bassline swoops with rave swooshes and an irresistible dancefloor come-on: “Drop that thang down low”. Yes he does. No surprise then that DJ Mag reckoned it was the Money $hot from FreQ Nasty’s FabricLive comp.
His pedigree goes back to his ‘Nukka’ 12″ in 2002, but now is definitely his time to shine as he’s standing tall on Trouble&Bass records alongside peers Drop The Lime and AC Slater.
