This Is Music w/ Chutes live + The French Quarter

April 10th, 2009

Yes it’s the monthly return of Edinburgh’s most popular (and best) gig/club crossover night. In brief, you’ve got Scotland’s most vital bands and some damn nifty DJs bringing the goods as always. Quality control like this means that Sneaky’s has a monster on its hands…

The gig bit is £3 and the club after is FREE.

Chutes have without doubt the tightest backline in Scottish indie, holding up some stratospheric songwriting. It’s emotive, powerful music that hits the heart, but the bassdrum kicks and jumps you onto the dancefloor. For those who haven’t seen them yet, Edinburgh’s Chutes are truly surprising and immediately impressive.

Jesus H. Foxx Record Launch at Black Tape + Y’all Is Fantasy Island + Hindle Wakes

April 3rd, 2009

Black Tape is very proud to host the launch of Jesus H. Foxx’s new single, and bring you live sets from three great Scottish acts:

Gig-goers in Edinburgh and Glasgow will be more than familiar with JESUS H. FOXX’s (http://www.myspace.com/jesushfoxx) fine brand of inventive post-punk, which prompted the esteemed online indie mag Drowned In Sound to describe them as a cross between ‘The Modern Lovers’ apathetic composure’ and ‘the rhythmic deviancy of Pavement.’ Praise indeed.

Y’ALL IS FANTASY ISLAND (http://www.myspace.com/yifimusic) released their third (third!) album last year to great critical acclaim from sections of both the local and national music press. Taking elements from a whole host of disparate influences, they fashion a sound that is part grungy-rock, part folk-tinged Scottish indie pop and part, well, everything in between.

Support comes from Glasgow’s HINDLE WAKES (www.myspace.com/hindlewakesband)
Black Tape DJs and Guests will follow with the very best pop tunes, along with free cakes and sweets and cheap drinks.

Tittsworth at Sneaky Beats

April 2nd, 2009

Jesse Tittsworth (yes, for real) rocks it across bassline, b’more and wild party styles.

“While the name sounds like the punch line to a Chris Rock routine, Tittsworth ain’t no joke. In fact, he’s one of the best up-and-coming DJs in the country, pushing club sounds to new audiences and new sonic heights” -Philly Weekly

Bio: From a performance aspect, Tittsworth has continuously dominated decks at a plate-a-minute’s pace. His diverse, high energy sets seamlessly blend Baltimore Club, rave, house, and more. He has grossly exceeded promoter expectations from Beijing to Brazil. He’s dropped jaws in Milan, hometown to the Crookers. He’s headlined highly successful club openings from Bangkok to Dublin. He remains a favorite in Scandinavia, Australia, Canada and countless cities both large and small. Tittsworth sells out in Sao Paulo, providing one of their best nights to date. Shortly thereafter, Titts was invited back to play at the legendary D-Edge and at a Brazilian festival featuring The Hives, The Melvins and more. He performed at Good Vibrations, a 40,000+ traveling Austrailian festival featuring Kanye West, Cypress Hill, The Rapture, Pharoahe Monch, A-trak, Surkin, Sinden, Kid Sister and a myriad other A-list acts. Titts is also no stranger in Asia. He is extremely well received from Singapore to Manila, where he played to 1000+ on a Monday night even. Acquired by AM Only, Tittsworth joins an impressive roster including everyone from the Richie Hawtin and MSTRKRFT to Carl Cox and Steve Angello.

Titts sets have been religiously grouped amongst the best in popular tour stop cities. From press appearances to industry events, Titts provides consistently memorable experiences. He has appeared on Finish television, MTV Canada, V TV (Asian MTV equivalent), countless international radio shows, magazines and newspapers. Sponsored gigs / tours recently include Diesel (Hong Kong), Addict, Redbull, Scion, Frank 151 and even a popular Taiwanese restaurant chain.

From URB and XLR8R to NME, his production continues to gain high praise. Titts music is a permanent fixture in blogs, charts and the press. Tittsworth has been asked to remix everyone from RNB star Solange (Beyonce’s sister) and pop icon Kanye West to disco legend Grace Jones and DNB frontrunner Subfocus. He has gained critical acclaim from Interscope Records, who personally invited him to Will.I.am’s house to showcase well-received Titts tracks.

“12 Steps,” Tittsworth’s debut album was recently released on Plant Music (co-owned and released by Stretch Armstrong, the man responsible for breaking many greats, including The Wu Tang Clan, and Dominique Keegan of The Glass). The first of its kind album features original Tittsworth production through unique collaborations with various A-list vocalists such as blog buzzers Kid Sister and hyphy vets The Federation to chart toppers like Nina Sky and Pitbull. Even before its release, “12 Steps” received high praise from Billboard, URB, Fader, Kiss, Radio 1, Entertainment Times and many more. The album continues to have both originals and remixes all over Ministry Of Sound Radio and Kiss FM (London) and more. Most recently, his debut album attracted the attention of licensing requests and Tittsworth’s first official publishing offer.

“Still recovering from the great time we had at The Rumble here in Malmö last night, Tittsworth killed it but we already knew that from the mix he gave us, could very well be one of the best sets I’ve ever heard. All you dj’s out there need to step your game up.”
