British India emerged from the fertile underbelly of Melbourne’s independent music scene to take Australia by storm in July 2007 with their acclaimed debut album Guillotine. As their songs became arm-raising, air-punching anthems at venues and festivals across the country, British India developed a hard-earned reputation for their explosive live shows.

Exactly one year later they released their second album, Thieves, which debuted at number 5 in the national ARIA chart and number 1 in the AIR Independent chart.

British India are one of Australia’s hardest working bands, having played over 300 gigs in the past two years alone. They’ve smashed their way through several sell-out tours and festivals like Big Day Out, Falls, Pyramid Rock, Southbound, Homebake and Splendour In The Grass to name a few. British India’s live show is a force to be reckoned with.

Formed in the winter of 2008, Penguins Kill Polar Bears play their hope-drenched post-rock to anyone who cares to listen. The band were born from a mutual love of good music, including bands such as Aereogramme, Silverchair and The Smashing Pumpkins.

Notable gigs with Twin Atlantic, Nine Black Alps, The Xcerts, And So I Watch You From Afar and Tubelord have been the springboard to a rapidly growing fan base from Scotland and beyond.

St Deluxe were formed by Jamie Cameron and Martin Kirwan. Sharing a love of indie ethics and ideals, vintage guitars and fuzz pedals, they decided to start a band taking inspiration from bands like Sonic Youth, My Bloody Valentine, Teenage Fanclub, Dinosaur Jr, Jesus & Mary Chain and Mudhoney.

The Winter Tradition are a noisy pop-rock quartet from Scotland. Their energetic live performances are emphasized by various dynamics that excite and involve the audience and they have succeeded in creating their own sound that is instantly recognisable to any listener or follower. The Winter Tradition have used the combination of many artists from different backgrounds and traditions to create a blend of music that they could listen to and enjoy themselves.

How did every morsel on Happy Birthday’s debut LP become as memorable as a first-slow-dance song? How did a first listen to the album feel like a 60th time through one of our old favorites? Eyes Music, with its upside-down rhythms and staircase harmonies marching across your face like martians. Subliminal Message, the ballad that you haven’t believed in since Cyndi Lauper weirdly made you weep in a Chevy Nova. I Wanna Stay, a song that you’re in the very center of and where you want to be for a long time. And the instantaneous “Girls FM,” a reminder about why we love the single and the rock trio. Buzzy guitar hammering you into happiness, a beat you can’t shake, and sweet back-up harmonies.

Everybody’s on the same frequency, the Happy Birthday kids sing without irony. The Happy Birthday kids care about making good music, and we can get behind them.

Over there is the girl you liked last year, there are several wrapped geo shapes on the table and they are presents for you. Some kid is laughing at you and it makes your nostrils pucker, on the other hand those cool weird kids are here, they are hanging out in the corner. It’s Ruthie and Kyley and Chris, they will play even if you’re not there.

No Exit Wound formed in 2008 in Thurso (population 8,721), Thurso lies at the extreme north of the British mainland and is the most northerly town on the UK mainland. It is 20 miles west of John o’ Groats and 21 miles north west of Wick, the closest town. The nearest city is Inverness, some 110 miles to the south.

Despite the isolation provided by their geographical location, No Exit Wound’s determination and will have seen them fight the odds and develop a strong sound that was showcased on their independently released 5 track EP “Generous To A Fault “.

Quickly picking up bookings around their native Scotland and also receiving radio play on BBC Radio 6 Introducing and regular air time on their regional radio station the band consider themselves lucky to have supported some of their favourite bands such as Sucioperro, The Xcerts, Yashin and Flood Of Red.

With the recent independent release of the single “Eyes In The Sky” the band are now focused on getting their name around the United Kingdom in 2010.
