The Mirror Dance presents K15 (Wild Oats / Eglo)

March 7th, 2020

We’re ecstatic to be welcomed back to one of Edinburgh’s finest institutes – Sneaky Pete’s for evening of jazz, soulful house and broken beat courtesy of K15!

Part of the new wave of the London hybrid jazz scene, Kieron Ifill, more commonly known as K15 is at the forefront of this fresh new sound coming out of London. Drawing influences from everything from jazz, hip-hop, broken beat and soul, to house and techno. K15’s sound is unique but made from the same silk as likes of Floating Points, Henry Wu and Dego.

K15 grew up on hardcore and jungle in the late ‘80s and early ‘90s in London, he would listen to his older brothers rave stories while saving up his pocket money to buy records. As he got older, new sounds were emerging from the London Underground scene, garage and house being the main ones. These genres rubbed off on K15 and are undoubtedly noticeable in his production.

K15 has been producing music for well over a decade now, his first major release which catapulted him into the spotlight was his 2014 ‘Insecurities’ EP which was signed onto Kyle Hall’s, Wild Oats Music label, after Hall discovered some of K15’s Chicago style jazz-House (think Glenn Underground) via Soundcloud.

As well as being a seasoned producer, K15’s DJ career has seen him graduate from curious bedroom DJ to international touring DJ, thanks largely to a lengthy stint as warm-up DJ for a night called UK Soul Jam (no relation to our Soul Jam) at Camden Town’s The Jazz Cafe in the late ’00s. His affinity with jazz lead him to release a highly-acclaimed 6-track LP under artist name Culross Close followed by ‘Moments’ in 2018, which was released on his own label Esencia.

We can’t wait to have K15 up for for his Scottish debut and to play a 3 hour set for us, at everyone’s favoirte sweatbox!

Miss World x Coalescence: Sybil [All Night Long]

March 6th, 2020

Coalescence is a new platform for cross-pollinated dance music. To celebrate our launch, we’re teaming up with Miss World to bring one of the UK’s most promising fresh faces up to Edinburgh, handing her the keys to the coveted Sneaky Pete’s booth for the duration.

Sybil has been a firm favourite of ours for a while now, due in no small part to the resonant deepness fleshed out in her mixes. With a penchant for all things hypnotic, drawn from across the technoid spectrum and beyond, she’s graced dancefloors from Amsterdam’s De School to London’s Fold, from Brilliant Corners to Berghain, not to mention a now-notorious closing set at Berlin Atonal last year. Since then, she’s shared the booth with the likes of Helena Hauff, Batu, Josey Rebelle, Afrodeutsche, Djrum, Luke Vibert, Object Blue, DVS1 and many more.

As a founding member of London’s SIREN collective, Sybil also does amazing work amplifying femme and NB voices throughout the scene. Whether through community workshops or their regular parties, their NTS residency or their zine, SIREN have been crucial in queering the fabric of London’s nightlife. They’ve also helped foster a fresher, more vibrant generation of Techno artists as tastemakers, having been among the first crews bringing the likes of Dr. Rubinstein and Aperion Crew to London back in 2016.

Miss World is an all-womxn DJ collective with monthly parties across Edinburgh, run by residents Julia, Emily, Feena & Gemma. We promote womxn and queer DJs from Scotland and beyond at our events, and run workshops for womxn to get into DJing. Our musical beauty pageant touches down at Sneaky Pete’s and on EH-FM every month. Previous guests include Peach, Nina Las Vegas, Logic1000, Lauren Hansom, RAW SILK.
