Good Morning are a band from Melbourne, Australia. Formed as a recording project in 2014 by Stefan Blair and Liam Parsons, the band’s presence in their lives has expanded slowly but surely over the better part of a decade. Due in part to a few strokes of luck, and a mysteriously unflinching desire to write and record music, Good Morning have been able to expand their scope from the lounge rooms and pubs they began recording and performing in to playing shows to people all across the globe.
In 2020 as tours began rapidly falling by the wayside, Good Morning’s plans to transition into a more full-time touring schedule quickly came to an end. Trying to re-contextualise their ‘jobs’ as musicians, Good Morning set their focus on piecing together a studio in the Melbourne suburb of Preston, and have since somewhat maintained a regular Monday – Friday recording schedule. Their latest release, the self-produced ‘Out To Pasture / Misery’ is a result of said schedule. With endless amounts of studio time Good Morning have been able to indulge more than ever in crafting layered recordings, a welcome change for the band, who for the most part have made their records within the space of a few days.
‘Out To Pasture / Misery’ marks a few firsts for the band, namely strings (performed by Melbourne based violinist Chloe Sanger) and banjo. Both songs also feature Glenn Blair on horns. Together Good Morning have released six records of varying quality and length – Shawcross (2014), Glory (2016), Prize // Reward (2018), The Option (2019), Basketball
Breakups (2019), and most recently Barnyard (2021). They are currently working on their seventh record.
If life was at all fair Ural Thomas would be a household name, his music slotted into countless sweet, seductive mixtapes between James Brown, Otis Redding, and Stevie Wonder. Straddling the line between hot soul shouter and velvety-smooth crooner, Thomas released a few singles in the late 60’s and early 70’s; most notably “Can You Dig It”, which featured backing vocals from soul luminaries Merry Clayton, Mary Wells and Brenda Holloway. Thomas played over forty shows at the legendary Apollo Theater before turning his back on an unkind business and heading home to Portland, OR.
In 2014, local soul DJ Scott Magee sat in on drums at one of Ural’s Sunday night jam sessions. The two became fast friends and at Magee’s urging Thomas decided to give his musical career another shot. Magee became the musical director, they put together a band, and in 2016 released a self-titled album.
In 2017 Thomas signed with Tender Loving Empire and began work on what, in many respects, will be his debut full length album.
A developing artist at nearly eighty years old, for Thomas music has always been about bringing people together. “If we play for twenty people we cook it like it’s twenty thousand” says Thomas. “If we make someone smile we’re satisfied”.
Standing in bold defiance of the idea that aging is a reason to slow down and stop living, for Thomas the right time to get down is the next time someone plugs in a guitar or puts on a record. Ural is ready – are you?

Colleen Green has always been cool, but on 2015’s I Want To Grow Up, she didn’t necessarily feel it. Too young to be free of insecurities but old enough to be sick of them running her life, Green was experiencing an existential crisis. In 2022 with new album ‘Cool’, we find her parsing out what it means to be grown-up—and realizing that it’s actually pretty Cool.
Opener “Someone Else” is a paean to power in which Green lets a lover know that double standards can go both ways. A groovy bass loop and zig-zagging guitar lines underscore her realization that happiness is in her own hands, and the vibe is set. Next up is the witty, catchy “I Wanna Be A Dog,” where Green celebrates the simplicity of a canine life and questions why she’s still overcomplicating her own. Dark and slinky “Highway” uses ruthless driving as a metaphor for a lifestyle that no longer interests her.
Burnt out on bad feelings and ready to have fun with melodies and beats, Green enlisted producer Gordon Raphael (The Strokes) to take her songs to higher ground while keeping her lo-fi aesthetic intact. Raphael was already a fan, having caught a show in L.A. and finding himself “struck by how confident and powerful she looked, even though she was the only one onstage.” He agreed to take the gig, and together with drummer Brendan Eder and hip hop producer Aqua over a few weeks in Los Angeles, Cool was created.
Sending it into the start of next week every Sunday at Sneaky Pete’s. Showcasing the very best of local talent with some extra special guests along the road too. Time to start taking Monday mornings off…
