Miss World: Yushh

July 1st, 2022

Miss World are delighted to welcome Yushh to July’s musical beauty pageant!

From her expert curation of her own label Pressure Dome, to the intricate and compelling sound design of her own releases, Bristol based Yushh is a crucial figure in the UK techno and bass scene.

Her love for electronic music as sound art while also appreciating ‘a clubby bass bobbler’ as she puts it is obvious – her complex productions on the likes of Banoffee Pies, Rhythm Section International and more feel equally at home in either camp. Not to mention her stunning sound design in award-winning short film Homebound. If you don’t know Yushh already, get to know. This one is not to be missed!!

Line-Up: Yushh, Feena, Alliyah Enyo, Aphid

NOTHING + No Windows
For fans of… Hum, Whirr, My Bloody Valentine

June 27th, 2022

With a sound that splits the difference between heavy metal darkness and shimmering shoegaze beauty, the Philadelphia band Nothing revolves around the songs and vision of Domenic Palermo. The group’s walls of distorted guitars and pummeling drums are topped by angelic vocal harmonies and thoughtful lyrics.

Their debut album, 2014’s Guilty of Everything, struck a chord with metal and shoegaze fans, and while subsequent albums dialled back the heaviness, they replaced it with a soaring pop sound and some soul-searching lyrics, particularly on 2018’s Dance on the Blacktop, which dealt with Palermo’s health issues.

Ever progressive, NOTHING keep true to their chaotic outlook on life and keen eye to avoid repetition on their latest full-length album The Great Dismal. With a radical cast of talented contributors such as harpist Mary Lattimore, classical musician Shelley Weiss, and singer/songwriter/producer Alex G., The Great Dismal showcases yet another essential side of the band’s trademark American Post-Shoegaze.

The Positive Experience

June 26th, 2022

The Positive Experience returns with a fresh zingy set prepared over the last two years of the madness that is the world now.

This is a fundraising event, gathering funds to help support the Ukrainian family of the keyboardist Artem, who are being affected by the war in Ukraine. The proceeds will be split 50/50 between his family and the Humanitarian Volunteer Centre of Odesa (hvc.org.ua), who are helping refugees and humanitarian aid missions within Ukraine.

The Positive Experience are an experimental indie band fronted by genderpunk poet and MC Lady Incarnate (Bam Jam). They are a band that hold groove and message in equally high regard and have become a strong figure of Edinburgh’s underground.

The band formed in December 2018 for a one-off performance to fundraise for Edinburgh’s beloved Forest Cafe. However, they continued performing together and have appeared in support of multiple causes including Glasgow’s “Stansted 15” solidarity concert, Extinction Rebellion protests, Project Play and Edinburgh Girls Rock School, Eden 2019 festival and 42 Degrees 2021, as well as a featured record on the ‘Love Music Hate Racism’ compilation album. Currently, they are preparing to perform at the upcoming Kelburn Garden Party and to record their first studio EP. The band members hail from all over the globe and they approach songwriting with a method of improvisation and collaboration. These pan-global influences shine through in their raucous live sets, ranging from cutting and insightful spoken word to dream-rock, funk, soul and live hip hop.

Telfort’s Good Place: Sinéad

June 24th, 2022

Right then! Year 7(!!) and the summer edition of my residency in the best place that is Sneaky’s Pete’s! 😉

I am VERY excited to be joined this time by Sinéad during the final weekend of her debut European tour. Over from San Francisco, Irish-Iranian Sinéad has been on my radar for a good while, racking up many hours of listening to her mixes and ‘Siah Shekar’ show on Hyde FM show over the past couple of years. TIP! (and not just because she plays my tunes sometimes).

I don’t have many DJs outstanding on the “must play B2B with” list left really, and happy to now cross Sinéad off! Can’t wait, come along!

“In a short period of time, San Francisco-based DJ Sinéad has built a reputation for her bright, punchy and rhythmic selections.

Dancing is in her veins; an extension of her Irish-Iranian heritage that feeds into her instincts when behind the controls.

Promoters up and down the Californian coast caught wind of her unique West Coast style, leading to bookings for esteemed parties like ‘A Club Called Rhonda’ and ‘Public Release’. This motivated the idea to start her own party series, Metropolis: an intimate fem-focused event that facilitates a space for up-and-coming artists to share their curated palate of sound with the dance floor.

When she’s not gracing the club, you can find her channelling her latest discoveries through the Hyde FM airwaves; the platform Sinead credits with championing her far-reaching tastes: a cocktail that consists of everything from warm street soul and shuffling UK Garage to 90s house, DnB and breaks. Since her first transmission on the station, her show ‘Siah Shekar’ – which translates as ‘Black Sugar’ in Farsi – has welcomed local selectors that tread similar sonic terrain.

With the world slowly opening up again, and clubs and parties firmly on the horizon this summer, there’s no better time for Sinéad to bring her sun-drenched selections to the masses.”
