Humour
Casual Drag
Pressure Retreat
for fans of Yard Act, Do Nothing, Television

December 3rd, 2022

At the start of the summer So Young Records (Vlure, Been Stellar, Lime Garden) announced the signing of Humour, a Glaswegian group still in their relative infancy, but one who arrived musically fully-formed, pairing together fragments of off-kilter post-punk, erratic indie-pop and discordant post-hardcore, delivering a sound that is at once disorientating and immediate.

Early shows in support of Do Nothing and Folly Group have already marked them out as a must see live band, propelled by the unhinged lyrical energy of front man Andreas Christodoulidis.

Humour live together in Glasgow and formed across the 2021 lockdowns, writing and recording their material at home, with the music intended as a backdrop to Andreas’ lyrics. Sometimes they’re about letting people down, sometimes they’re about pets dying, sometimes they’re about trying to say something when you don’t have anything worth saying.

Miss World:
Somewhere Between Tapes
Lizzie Urquhart and Tim Dalzell

December 2nd, 2022

Somewhere Between Tapes is a Glasgow-based record label, formed in 2022 by Lizzie Urquhart and Tim Dalzell. Both are residents at Clyde Built and have contributed to Mutant Radio, Refuge Worldwide, Lyl Radio and Rinse FM. Their radio shows are characterised by a reflective nature, designed for deep listening. This is supplemented by their online mix series ‘Somewhere’, and involvement in co:clear; a new collaborative listening series formed with Conna Haraway of INDEX:Records.

In a live context, their DJ sets take on a hypnotic EBM sound, a low-tempo psychedelic pulse across pitched-down acid house, polyrhythmic electronica and leftfield minimal wave. Both are established artists who have begun to play across Europe as well as inspiring local festivals such as Jupiter Artland.

This will be a unique change in tempo for us at Miss World- a rare chance to indulge in the grungier sides of the records we love.

Please respect your fellow dancers – all are welcome at Miss World. We operate a safe space policy, and a zero tolerance policy towards homophobia, transphobia, racism, sexism, ableism, creepiness, or just being a downright shitebag in general. Anyone found to be being a shitebag in any of the above ways will be immediately removed from the premises. Respect your fellow dancers, don’t assume people’s pronouns and keep your hands to yourself (unless you’re given obvious and explicit permission of course)! You can ALWAYS approach Miss World DJs (we’re normally next to the booth) or venue staff if you feel uncomfortable or unsafe. If you have had too much to drink, lost your pals or just want to be around safe people, come and find us to hang out or we can help get you a taxi home. Our bathrooms are gender neutral the night of our event so please respect each other in choosing what feels comfortable.

Sneaky Pete’s is accessible, however there are no accessible toilets – patrons are welcome to use accessible toilets at the Three Sisters just along the Cowgate. Please get in touch with us or Sneaky Pete’s if you have any questions about accessibility in advance of the event.

The Quilter
Zoe Graham

December 2nd, 2022

The Quilter is the brainchild of Glasgow native Stuart Dougan, a veteran to the local scene having led and been a part of many other notable projects born in Scotland, such as indie favourites French Wives and Smash Williams.

He has shaped his new project entirely on his own terms writing everything and playing almost every instrument himself (with the exception of the drums, which he is keen to point out, he does not have the ability to play to an even remotely proficient standard).

The Rills

December 1st, 2022

Armed with a forthcoming debut EP full of biting, streamlined indie – all taught, propulsive rhythms and witty, acerbic vocals – the omnipresent backbone of small-town living lies front and centre in everything that Lincoln trio The Rills create, from their tales of ‘Stardog’s and ‘Skint Eastwood’s to the driving ambition to make something bigger of themselves that rings in every cutthroat riff. ? If you can take the band out of Lincoln, then you can’t take the keen eye for wayward characters and hometown anti-heroes out of the band, and nor should you want to. Having spent the past 18 limbo months cultivating a fervent online following (their joke-filled TikTok currently stands at a not-too-shabby 4 million likes), now The Rills – vocalist/ guitarist Mitchell Spencer, bassist Callum Warner-Webb and drummer Mason Cassar – are ready to pick up that mantle and run with it. “Growing up in a small town has had such a huge influence on the way I approach songwriting,” Mitch begins, “and, coming from there, we always felt like the underdogs. No-one ever does anything from Lincoln, so we had to be the ones to make it happen.” ? See The Rills on tour: January 31st – Leicester, The Cookie February 1st – Swansea, The Bunkhouse 2nd – St. Albans, The Horn 3rd – York, Fulford Arms 4th – Sheffield, Sidney & Matilda 5th – Reading, Face Bar

Dave Arcari
for fans of… Seasick Steve, Left Lane Cruiser, Scott H Biram

November 30th, 2022

Slide guitarist & songwriter Dave Arcari’s alt.blues sounds owe as much to trash country, punk and rockabilly as they do pre-war Delta blues and have been showcased via six internationally-acclaimed solo album releases.

His latest studio album – Devil May Care – is scheduled for release on Buzz Records on 18 November 2022.

While continuing to build his audience in the USA with once or twice-annual tours since 2013 – including official showcases at SxSW in Austin, Texas – Arcari maintains his presence on the UK and European touring and festival circuits with regular live shows throughout the year.

The ultimate validation for Arcari’s music and performance came in 2019 when National Reso-Phonic Guitars launched the ‘Dave Arcari signature model’ guitar. Arcari joins an elite and exclusive group of players who have signature models and is the first – and only – musician outside the USA to be honoured by the iconic instrument maker whose name is synonymous with the development of the blues genre.
