Lionoil 8th Birthday:
Mosca
Feena
Percy Main
November 25th, 2022
8 years ago amid a run of radio shows and armed with a burner and a logo we threw an illicit dance with the Untzz crew at Wee Red Bar.
Since then we’ve released 9 records and hosted countless gatherings with icons like Eris Drew, Violet, Bradley Zero, Soichi Terada, Move D, Lena Wilikens and DJ Voices alongside our own iconic family of DJs. Looking back brings a tear to the eye.
For this one, we’ve invited one of our all time favourite producers and DJs (not at all an understatement) – Mosca. Back in 2011, the undisputed best year for dance music, Mosca smashed into our radar with iconic records on Night Slugs, Numbers, Martyn’s 3024, all of which still regularly feature in our sets – the last one hasn’t left the bag since it came out. Each release rooted firmly in the UK but deftly darting across completely different styles, all killer. A handful of under the radar releases on his label Not So Much (launched at the same time as ours) included an early release from Ploy under a previous moniker, and refined Mosca’s sound – playful, extremely well engineered UK techno with deep references, always designed for the club. Aspirational stuff.
I could go on for days, but suffice to say as a DJ he really is one of the best around and reflects the eclecticism of his back catalogue. Last time he played Sneaks (with Percy Main) happened to be the week before we threw that first party 8 years ago. Blimey we’re getting old eh…
Warm up duties from Feena and Percy Main, going b2b for a long overdue debut!
This will be extremely fun. Hip hop hooray!
Tasting Shapes
You Are Lost Be Careful
BOOTlace
November 25th, 2022
Writing music for the sheer love of it, Tasting Shapes are forming their own sonic identity somewhere on the spectrums of post, indie and prog rock. Formed late 2019 in Edinburgh as a semi-acoustic duo project, founding members Chris MacKinnon (guitars and keys) and Kat Aydin (vocals) were later joined by Callum Mouat (drums) and Robert Tingle (bass) as their sound evolved, with Rab Winter joining on second guitar as they take to the live stage.
The band are releasing their debut album, Close to Distance, on 25th November.
Edinburgh Disco Lovers presents Last Days of Pompeii
November 24th, 2022
The Edinburgh Disco Lovers welcome The Last Days of Pompeii, with residents Mairi B and Faisal Sabawi joining the line-up for our event in aid of Living Rent.
Having cut his teeth DJing in his hometown of Aberdeen, LDOP is an eclectic music lover, avid record collector and talented producer. With a well-received debut release “Make Me Believe” on Fresh Take Records’, followed up by “LXXXVIII” on Precog Records, plus a stack of self-releases and collaborations including our very own VA Volume 1 with “Nothing Hurts Like Love”, LDOP is one to keep an eye on.
Profits from the night will be donated to Living Rent – a mass-membership organisation of low and middle-income renters, fighting together to win concrete improvements to peoples’ daily lives and to put power back where it belongs in the hands of ordinary people. They believe that every tenant deserves safe, affordable housing – free from unjust rent increases, discrimination, and eviction.
