John Moods
waverley.
for fans of… Todd Rundgren, Beach House, John Maus, Whitney

December 7th, 2022

My music is serious but all seriousness in the world is also permeated by giggles”

John Moods encountered a busker at “Atlantic Station” in New York in 2012 and this eerie moment printed itself in his mind. A seemingly random encounter resulted in a sort of channeling of this song.

In the video, fast images of an aging Johnny in many roles and situations are flashing by almost like recalling distant memories of other lives that can occur during a psychedelic or visionary experience when identity can seem to be merging with the universe and dissolve into everything.

The video by audiovisual artist Ludwig Plath elaborates on the themes of crossed wires and unexplainable phenomena of the digital realm where images, music and media can become entangled in such a way as to create worlds familiar and yet completely alien.

The confrontation with aging and dying is a constant theme of John Moods’ artistic expression. After the lighthearted and humorous “So Sweet So Nice” essentially celebrating life through the lens of imminent demise, “Atlantic Station” is a little more cryptic and mysterious traveling beyond the boundaries of linear time and identity.

The Scratch

December 6th, 2022

“When Metal meets Trad” – JOE.ie

“These lads are very good. This is pure original and weird, makes me uncomfortable. Every box ticked.” – The Rubberbandits.

The Scratch are a 4-piece acoustic act from Dublin, Ireland. Born from a shared love of acoustic guitar, metal and traditional Irish music, The Scratch have molded triumphant melodies with the groove and intensity of metal.

Started as a fun experiment in the kitchen of a house in Perrystown, Dublin, The Scratch have already built up a serious buzz in their hometown. A 2017 busking trip to Rory Gallagher festival in Ballyshannon saw the band score their first viral video, racking up an astonishing one million views in just a week and shared around the world.

The Scratch capitalized on this attention and every Dublin headliner they have done to date has been sold out well in advance. This started with The Underground and continued in The Grand Social. Next came a raucous show in Whelans. This Christmas, they play the Button Factory which sold out 3 months in advance. 2020 will see their biggest headliner to date in The Academy, with rumored debut album announcement to follow.

2018 saw the release of their very first EP, ‘Old Songs’, a collection of older instrumental material followed by crowd favorite, ‘Flaker’ in the Summer. March 2019 sees the release of ‘The Whole Buzz’ EP with a marked development of their songwriting style. ‘The Whole Buzz’ further cements The Scratch as one of the best trad revival/metal crossover acts in the country and one of the most exciting acoustic acts in the world with high energy acoustic riffs and soaring melodies littered across the 5 tracks.

Their output of videos has been extremely important to the identity of the band. Most recently came ‘God Slap’ in November 2019, a high energy stand-alone single with a video to match, shot and edited by the band themselves, as is their process.

To really understand the band, they have to be seen live in concert. This is where tey thrive and challenge anybody to come to a show and not leave with a smile on their face.

Anny-Leigh & Laith Andrews
for fans of… Phoebe Bridgers, Lorde and the Staves

December 5th, 2022

Two singer songwriters. One show not to be missed.

Anny Leigh and Laith Andrews met while busking during the Edinburgh Fringe, and after a not-awful jam session, promptly decided that a collaboration of their musical styles was quite possibly just the thing that the world didn’t quite know that it wanted yet. They’re inviting the world to come along and judge for itself.

Blending a diverse set of styles in a unique mix that tilts between power and rawness, sincerity and humour, this acoustic collaboration promises to warm the heart as the winter draws in.

Eyes of Others

December 4th, 2022

Eyes of Others – have been described as making ‘Post-pub couldn’t get in the club music’. Really though, you’ll recognise it as the sound of the small hours.

It’s The Blue Nile lost on the dancefloor at an Optimo night; John Martyn working magic with drum loops and Logic; a copy of the first Suicide LP washed up on the shores of Portobello Beach. It’s drawn curtains and
an overheating stereo in your friend’s living room after the rest of town has called it a night, it’s hours spent watching the windows before sunrise in a slumbering city.

Recent release on Heavenly Recordings, Bewitched by the Flames is a very limited vinyl only EP of home recordings. The songs are intimate, compelling
and strange – electronic yet completely human, stories of everyday life set to woozy, lolloping rhythm tracks.

EHFM:
anu
Mixed Feelings

December 3rd, 2022

Huge radio guest bucket list moment, this one!

Absolutely psyched to have UK radio queen anu coming to Sneaks! From her fortnightly Soup to Nuts show on NTS to her residency on the BBC Asian Network, anu lives and breathes radio. And it’s so clear to anyone listening how much she enjoys it, bringing a unique creativity and candidness to every show she does. Truly a presenting style we all look up to at the station!

Anyone lucky enough to have caught one of anu’s club sets before will know it’s all about the party – a proper no-holds-barred music policy which makes for maximum fun. We are dead excited to see what she whips up in the wee sweatbox!

Warming up will be station faves Mixed Feelings who, like anu, bring a weirdness and open-mindedness to every set they do. Catch them every Thursday at 10am on EHFM Mornings!
