Stalagmiites:
Nick León
Petfood

February 9th, 2023

Stalagmiites is a new, multi-genre night at Sneaky Pete’s run by Club Sylkie and friends.

For our first dance, we’re delighted to welcome Miami’s Nick León to the club for his Scottish debut. His scorching track Xtasis caught the world’s attention over summer and was recently defined as ‘Track of the Year’ by Resident Advisor. His sets merge ferocious dance music inspired by the heat of Miami with relentless techno variations, bringing a dynamic, intensely danceable hybrid of club magic to the dancefloor.

Whether its Boiler Room, HÖR, or NTS, Nick León delivers the highest quality of rhythmic drums, pulverising bass, and sharp textures to keep dancers moving all night long. We’re delighted to have him join us at Sneaky Pete’s for his Scottish debut!

We’ll also have the enigmatic and ever talented Petfood on support. Petfood’s Revolt night merges queer club influences with styles of European techno, bringing lively interpretations of both sounds into new lights. His productions are dark and hypnotic, inviting a listener into a sharply designed realm of immersive sound.

Pale Blue Eyes
Hector Gannet
No Windows
**SOLD OUT**
for fans of… Cocteau Twins, Working Mens Club, Dry Cleaning

February 8th, 2023

Pale Blue Eyes’ excelsior modernist pop music comes from Devon and Sheffield – via stop-overs in Iceland, KLF-land and the Steel City home of British electronic music.

The Totnes, UK-based trio share their name with a classic Velvet Underground song, but their output barely resembles the work of a traditional rock band, let alone Lou Reed et al. There’s no wild abandon at play here, no drug-fueled jam sessions; instead, their affection for meticulously placed drum machines, nostalgic synths, and reverb-soaked riffs positions them closer to a new-wave revival outfit, Echo and the Bunnymen and Cocteau Twins being the two biggest influences.

Their new album Souvenirs, produced by Dean Honer (Róisín Murphy, I Monster, the Human League) is a simple, but laser-focused, blast from the past, faithfully restoring all the textural and atmospheric accouterments we associate with that era without distracting from the novel hooks, which provide the band with a unique angle by which to navigate a well-trodden path—and stand out from the pack as a result.

Titus Andronicus
Jade Hairpins (Jonah and Mike from F*cked Up)
at The Mash House
for fans of… Fucked Up, The Hold Steady, Bruce Springsteen

February 7th, 2023

New Jersey’s Titus Andronicus have a raucous and individual take on punk rock that embraces the fast and loud parts of the formula but leaves room for indie rock, garage rock, classic rock, and folk influences as the band careen through it all with a muscular passion and a surprising variety of literary references.

Led by guitarist and singer Patrick Stickles, Titus Andronicus — named after the Shakespeare play — embraced a big, bold, and reckless sound on their debut album, 2008’s The Airing of Grievances, and while they sounded tighter and more ambitious on the Civil War-themed concept album The Monitor released in 2010, their “everything but the kitchen sink” approach to punk had only grown bigger and wilder, if better controlled. 2015’s The Most Lamentable Tragedy was an epic-scale rock opera that added pop accents and deep dynamics to the group’s toolkit, as well as putting their influences front and centre for several songs, while they focused on a folk-informed sound for 2018’s A Productive Cough.

Jade Hairpins sneaked onto the scene in late 2018 with a mysterious 12-inch on Merge Records and a couple of poetic sentences about hiding in trees. The label remained tight-lipped while touting Dose Your Dreams, a truly epic new Fucked Up album released on the same day. Fast forward to 2020, when Fucked Up drummer Jonah Falco and songwriter/guitarist Mike Haliechuk burst out of the proverbial trees with Harmony Avenue, a collection of songs written and recorded in real time. Pop foraging with analog acoustics and electronic landscaping. The album’s themes mostly focus on contradictory behavior and double entendres as well as regret and control, revelation, support, and complete absurdity. Jade Hairpins are here to challenge, confound, and sparkle their way into listeners’ hearts and keep them coming back for more!
