Edinburgh locals, breath a sigh of relief. The festival is drawing to a close for another year. To see off a month of weekly sell-out Overgrounds at Mash, and before Bongo reopens its doors, Wrisk invites a host of the usual OG suspects for an anything-goes August blowout. It might also be someone’s birthday too.

Lion On Tiger are an alternative rock band hailing from Edinburgh. With 3 EPs under their belt to date and another release on the horizon, they are defined by their penchant for fusing melody and crunching riffs with self-depricating honest lyricism. Expect high energy and intensity from their live performances.
The Runaway Models are the hottest punk band coming out of Scotland right now. They have just released their latest single ‘Wonderful World’
UK Punk band Science Made Us Robots formed in London in 2012 and are now based in Edinburgh. Their fast paced melodic sound pays homage to Green Day, Rancid, NOFX and Bad Religion, with strong English and Scottish accents. The initial line-up of the band centered around singing-drummer Paul Galinsky, and guitarist-vocalist Fin Ferrol. The pair tried to maintain SMUR despite Paul moving from London to Scotland in late 2012. They recorded first album ‘Rats & Swans’ with Daly George (then of Drones) at the helm.

Inspired by tapes of his father’s old band, Ben Schwab’s music recalls Laurel Canyon’s rootsy collaborative scene of rolling folk-rock. Having played for years in Golden Daze and Drugdealer, he recorded his debut ‘Sylvie’ under the same nom-de-plume in his own garage in Silverlake CA. “I aspire to write timeless songs I could relate to 40 years from now,” he says. “Putting my own life experiences, friends and family into them, making Sylvie has been a spiritual pursuit.”

Laurent
Josephine Sillars
August 27th, 2023
Kat Caballero-Rennie – or in her own words “the artist also unknown as Laurent” – began making music at an Edinburgh youth group when she was just 15, and sang a song about Face Paint, turning the instructions no one reads on the packaging into her first song “Hunting Season”.
Two years later and with a more honed and polished sound, she’s ready to announce herself to anyone willing to listen. With influences ranging from Sigrid, Mother Mother, and her local heroes Vistas – her slick electro pop and introspective lyrics, which she says are open for people to interpret as they like, belay her tender years.
