for fans of… Bob Vylan, Lynks, Shygirl, The Prodigy

November 16th, 2023

Producer/vocalist Grove contorts dancehall, bass and hip-hop into a brand new beast, spurred by sensual liberation and political defiance. Inspired by the DIY nature and ethos of punk, the catharsis of dance music & the power of Jamaican soundsystem culture, Grove feeds you food for thought at the dance and enough energy to turn thought into action.

Emerging from community studios where their sound was carved within an enriching fringe group of young creatives, Grove moves from firmly rooted DIY circles with a powerful drive towards lyrical realness and collective wellness alongside their music collaborator EJ:AKIN.

As a sharp new voice, Grove released their debut EP ‘Queer + Black’ in February 2021; an exploration of identity, both personal (‘Black/Sticky’) and political (‘Fuck Ur Landlord’), and a deft combination of punchy hooks and splintering beats beamed in from a club in 3021 AD. To date, their sound has been publicly championed by Mary Anne Hobbs, Steve Lamacq, Jamz Supernova and Jack Saunders.

After a 2022 of tearing up festivals worldwide and supporting the likes of Bob Vylan, Peaches, BABii & Moonchild Sanelly, Grove’s first single of 2023, ‘BIG BOOTS’ is a timely riposte to the monarchy, imperialism, systemic racism and a flame to the bunting choking the streets of the UK.

Raji Rags
– 5 Years of DRIFT

November 15th, 2023

The boundary-pushing NTS host Raji Rags joins us for a one-off special DRIFT event celebrating 5 five extraordinary years of musical exploration into the periphery. Famed for his extensive knowledge across a huge range of musical genres, fans of his residency are more than familiar with his ability to consistently select hidden gems from a huge array of styles and you’ll often hear him drawing from jazz, soul, hip-hop, leftfield techno, jungle and beyond in a single show.

Raj’s commitment to the scene extends far beyond his radio work and few can match his lifetime of contribution to music and nightlife. He co-runs the world-renowned London hip-hop collective Livin’ Proof (bringing artists such ASAP Rocky and Danny Brown to the UK), manages the label OTIH Records (recently releasing work from the seminal Jazz outfit Speakers Corner Quartet) and has continually pushed things forward from behind the scenes during his time with Bleep, R&S, Create Define Release and Boiler Room over the course of his illustrious career. Truly a legend of UK underground music, we can’t wait to welcome him to Sneaks for a genre-traversing midweek celebration fitting for five years of DRIFT!

Flat Party
Spinney
Goby
for fans of… Suede, Sparks, David Bowie

November 15th, 2023

Flat Party’s’ driving post-punk rhythms and ability to deftly lampoon hot button societal issues may draw inspiration from the likes of alternative stalwarts Suede and Walt Disco, but they combine it with a biting, tongue in cheek and distinctly unique twist.

Jack Lawther (Vocals – he/him) and Rory O’Rourke (He/Him) first joined forces amongst the anarchic inner circles of the Bristol underground music scene. They soon formed a strong artistic connection built upon their creative common ground; both musical and in the shared messages they set out to convey.

Enola Gay
Cowboy Hunters
Gravelle
at The Mash House
for fans of… IDLES, Death Grips, shame

November 14th, 2023

“Iggy Pop-approved …this is no retread – their songs are powering them into vicious new places.” – NME

“They are every bit as ferocious and uncompromising live as you might guess from their records!” – Steve Lamacq, BBC 6Music

“They have the aura of a band that should be filling stadiums.” – Fred Perry Subculture

Belfast-based Irish noise-punk mob formed in late 2019. Venomous hip-hop-inspired vocals that are as uncompromising as the guitars are unforgiving, layered on a rhythm section that draws as much from left-field electronica and techno as it does from post-punk heroes of the late 70s. Their sound garnered them widespread acclaim from both industry and music fans around the globe, culminating in them being the most booked up-and-coming Irish band for festivals this year.

Wasting no time, Enola Gay established themselves as one of the next unique punk voices, having been listed in both NME and Rolling Stone’s lists of acts to define 2022 along with headlining festival slots post-pandemic. After releasing their acclaimed debut EP Gransha, they embarked on their Spring 22′ UK Tour before supporting Therapy? on their arena tour. It is no wonder they have been hotly tipped by Iggy Pop, Jehnny Beth, and anyone who catches their now infamous high-energy sets.

“If you can imagine all of the best things that the Pacific Northwest has brought us—Mount Eerie, Grunge, Sleater-Kinney, The Girls Rock Camp, and lush mountain ranges—reimagined and told through the perspective of an Indigenous Swinomish/Iñupiaq woman; if you can imagine the magic that would bring to your life then you can imagine Black Belt Eagle Scout.”
— She Shreds Magazine

Katherine Paul’s third album of patient, cinematic indie rock surveys a return trip to her ancestral lands in the Swinomish Indian Tribal Community—and the hard-won peace she found once she arrived.

Dougie Poole
Andy Boay
for fans of… Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen, Mac DeMarco, Silver Jews

November 13th, 2023

A country songwriter from Brooklyn’s indie underground, Dougie Poole blurs the lines between genre and generation on his third solo album, The Rainbow Wheel of Death. Rooted in sharp songwriting, Poole’s golden baritone, and the organic sounds of a live-in-the-studio band, it’s a classic-sounding record for the modern world, stocked with songs that make room for everything from old-school synthesizers to contemporary storytelling.

The Rainbow Wheel of Death’s title nods to the colourful pinwheel that appears onscreen whenever a computer’s application stalls. For Poole — who found himself working as a freelance computer programmer once the pandemic brought his touring schedule to a temporary halt in 2020 — it’s also a reference to the holding pattern that’s left much of society feeling stuck, unable to move ahead in an uncertain world. That feeling was pervasive when he began writing these nine songs, finishing the first handful of tracks in his New York City bedroom and wrapping up the songwriting process in the recording studio itself, this time surrounded by a band of collaborators and instrumentalists.
