EHFM presents:
Potpourri vs ratarsed

October 5th, 2024

Back to school, back to the club and back to back-to-backs. We are soooooo back btw.

For the first show of the new term we thought we’d visit a theme as old as time itself: light & dark; good & evil; potpourri & ratarsed.

We’re gonna solve the age-old conundrum that plagued the minds of Greek philosophers once and for all at Sneaky Pete’s on Sat 5th October.

Probably worth coming to?

Problem Patterns
Pretty Crime
Brat Coven
for fans of… X-Ray Spex, Bikini Kill, Amyl and The Sniffers, Lambrini Girls

Problem Patterns are four shouty queers who write songs for right now, swapping roles and instruments to get their point across about whatever angers them this week.

After many lonely nights screaming alone in their bedrooms over the state of the world, Alanah, Bethany, Bev and Ciara (aka ABBA) came together in 2018 to invent a new genre they called PUNK. It’s shouty, it’s heavy, it’s tongue in cheek, it’s inclusive, it’s hopeful and it’s fun.

The four DIY punk dads are all about creating havoc in celebratory and cathartic spaces. Bigger than The Beatles, but not yet quite as big as Slipknot, the band have played notable support slots with Le Tigre, Bob Vylan, Dream Wife & Ash

Problem Patterns released their ferocious debut album Blouse Club in October 2023 through Alcopop! Records.

Here’s what some of their icons had to say about them:

“A thoroughly great racket” – Steve Lamacq, BBC RADIO 6 MUSIC

“They make weird music for right now that sounds like no one else and I am addicted” – Kathleen Hanna

“I just think they’re great” – Henry Rollins

“Fuckin’ fantastic!” – Gordon Ramsey

Adam Ross + Band

October 3rd, 2024

Adam Ross is a songwriter based in north-east Scotland. He has led the cult indie band Randolph’s Leap for over a decade, releasing music with King Creosote and Pictish Trail’s Fence Records and Lost Map as well as Olive Grove Records and Fika Recordings. He released a debut solo folk album ‘Staring At Mountains’ in 2022 and in May 2024 he followed it up with ‘Littoral Zone’, a new solo album produced by multiple Scottish Album Of The Year Award nominated composer and multi-instrumentalist Andrew Wasylyk.

The album is a heavily lyrical collection of warped indie-folk ballads inspired by Adam’s relocation to the coast. The album title is a term associated with shorelines but also a nod to a style of direct, literary observations about the people, landscapes and states of mind Adam has discovered since moving there. The lyrics cover themes of nature, politics, aging, love and death and are surrounded by Andrew’s deft production featuring luscious string ensembles and brass.

Adam has a track record of playing at festivals and venues across the country such as Celtic Connections, Belladrum, The Edinburgh Fringe, and Green Man. His reputation as an engaging, witty, storytelling performer was further cemented by his role in ‘The Isle of Love’, a country-wide touring theatre show inspired by his songs.

His music has received regular airplay on BBC Radio Scotland and BBC 6 Music as well as excellent press in newspapers such as The Herald and The Scotsman.

The Howlers
Viddy
for fans of… Blossoms, Black Honey, Oasis, Miles Kane

September 29th, 2024

‘What You’ve Got to Lose to Win It All’ Is the highly anticipated debut album from East London Trio The Howlers, a 15-track collection, produced by Black Honey and defined by resilience, friendship and unconditional love through unimaginable pain. Taking their lead from an eclectic range of influences, from the film scores of Ennio Morricone and John Willams, to desert blues pioneers Tinariwen, Kurt Vile, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and Father John Misty, The Howlers are far from your conventional British guitar band. The album’s announcement comes with the release of new single ‘Cowboys Don’t Cry’ and the promise of an exceptional debut record.

The Debut album promises glorious, expansive songs that conjure up cinematic landscapes a long, long way from London’s East End. Escapism, perhaps, but entirely understandable and justified given what frontman Adam has experienced over the last two years. Two life threatening illnesses in the course of two months, the loss of four family members and two close friends and the following immeasurable grief have all played a huge part in the creation of the album, the devoted bond between bandmates and the unique connection between the band and their fanbase.
