Sylkie World:
Beatrice M.
EMA
Feena
xivro

October 11th, 2024

Miss World and Club Sylkie lock hearts behind the booth once more, bringing two shimmering stars of bass music to Cowgate’s favourite Sweatbox ?.???

We’re delighted to welcome Paris based DJ and producer Beatrice M to Sneaky Pete’s for their Scottish debut. The Bait label head will bring their deeply intricate selections that meld together dubstep influenced atmospheres and textures with techno inspired, driving rhythms

Joining Beatrice on the bill is Dublin’s EMA, whose sets showcase a spectrum of sounds routed within bass music – marrying together deep, dubby vibrations with energetic and percussive cuts. EMA’s last set at Club Sylkie back in 2022 brought a special heat to that Thursday night in August, packed out with breakbeat and grimey magic.

Opening the club is Miss World’s Feena and Club Sylkie’s xivro – mischief makers and dub delinquents frequently found dabbling across Scotland’s central belt.

Chemtrails
Fistymuffs
for fans of… Black Lips, Talking Heads, Devo, Suburban Lawns

October 10th, 2024

Served on a bed of twangy and fuzzy guitars, primitive synths and polychromatic pop, Chemtrails’ tongue-in-cheek lyrics tackle alienation, the absurd, the human condition, the impending apocalypse and lead singer Mia Lust’s place in the world as a transgender woman.

The Chemtrails machine is now souped up with a turbocharged rhythmic engine, propelling their hook-filled songs to new levels of raw power, as the band sashays between sleazy punk, frantic krautrock and sardonically sassy grooves.

Saloon Dion

The New Shade
at Legends
for fans of… IDLES, Fontaines DC, Squid, Goat Girl

October 9th, 2024

Bristol-based Saloon Dion have delivered an anthemic post-Britpop sing-along in their new EP ‘Where You’ll Find Me’, which could capture the imagination of the masses.

The EP, recorded in Newcastle with Thom Lewis (aka Bramwell Bronte), marks the group’s first body of work since their debut EP ‘Muckers’ last year.

Vocalist Dave Sturgess elaborates on the EP’s themes: “Lyrically, Where You’ll Find Me draws on themes of unrequited love, fear of commitment, growing old, growing up too fast, loneliness, arrogance, ignorance, self reflection and self destruction, but ultimately culminates with an overriding theme of moving on, and being better for it.”

Cala
Curiosity Shop

October 6th, 2024

Cala is a Scottish Neo-Trad band, originally from Inverness. Their style fuses elements of Scottish traditional/folk with contemporary music of all kinds, inspired by the vibrant Scottish Trad scene.

They began their studio career in 2020 with Causeway and started to gain momentum with Highland festivals such as Under Canvas, The Gathering, and Belladrum. In the summer of 2022, Cala embarked to the Isle of Lewis to record their debut album From the River with Keith Morrison of Wee Studio. It was released in March of 2023, and they celebrated with their first self-promoted show; a sold-out album release party in their hometown of Inverness. Their music has taken them all over Scotland, and more recently as far as France with Festival Interceltique du Lorient.

In late 2023, they recorded and released their latest single Two-stroke Wheelbarrow with Scott Wood of Oak Ridge Studios. The track offers a glimpse into the much bolder and more experimental style they’ve been developing since the release of their debut album. In 2024, they’ll return to Belladrum and The Gathering. They’ll also make their first appearance at Glasgow’s new festival The Reeling, with more exciting announcements lined up. The band continues to push themselves creatively and their passion for writing and performing grows ever stronger. Watch this space.
