The Debuts are a fiery four-piece from Edinburgh with a passion for synth-led indie-rock anthems and energy fuelled live shows that are getting the band quite the reputation as one of the most promising acts around.

Fresh from support slots with Hard-Fi, Ocean Colour Scene, Little Man Tate, Delays and The Dykeenies, The Debuts are currently touring Scotland in promotion of their brand new EP ‘Honesty’.

DEN HAAN Lowdown

Den Haan is Glasgow based producer/songwriter Matthew Aldworth (aka Crème De Menthe) and DJ/songwriter Andrew Gardiner. They got together back in the summer of 2006 when they discovered a mutual love of Italo and Hi NRG. After getting together for a one off party, they soon realised the endless possibilities of their creative partnership and since then have developed their own unique approach to experimental songwriting and audio/visual production. Their style now encompasses bass heavy electro, breakbeats, italo, techno and hi NRG and various other forms of modern dance music but still retains that retro feel.

Using live bass, guitars, analogue synthesizers, vocal effects and Ableton Live their music has been gaining much respect from the likes of Vic Galloway, Death Disco and the Optimo crew. In fact their latest ep “Release The Beast” came out on Optimo Music back in February to much critical acclaim. With their debut album, working title, “God’s from Outer Space” due out very soon these boys are definitely gonna be an act to keep an eye on. We at Pins And Needles are absolutely thrilled to bring them to Edinburgh for another session of forward thinking underground dance music!

As ever Pins And Needles resident noisemongers will be supporting with their trademark eclectic electronica and bass heavy grooves.

With the band hailing from Shetland and Glasgow they know the beauty and the bruises that make up the world. Their passion-fired music reflects this tension, creating what one reviewer aptly described as “roughed up melodic niceness”. It’s music to awaken the soul and challenge the mind, led by Callum Wiseman’s powerful vocal and ably backed by his two band-mates’ shouting, harmonising and energised playing.
Not ones for following trends, this trio approach music like true craftsmen. Shunning the faddish “one rehearsal then let’s record the album” attitude, Jocasta Sleeps focus on making music that they totally believe in, and have forged a musical path of their own. Instead of throwing themselves straight into the live scene, they made their home in the rehearsal room, crafting the exact sound they were pursuing, ensuring every note was right.

Now Wiseman, John McGinley and Niall McGarvie are taking their precision-honed anthems to the masses, and the songs are coming to life all over again. Think Death Cab For Cutie multiplied by Biffy Clyro, and you’re in the right ballpark, but like all the very best music, Jocasta Sleeps can’t be pinned down by comparisons. They’re doing something that has to be heard first-hand, and to hear it is to love it.

Getting folks properly hot under the collar with their indie-youth-riot sounds and huge stage presence, The Boycotts have already had their pick of all the best shows in Glasgow. We’re pleased to finally bring them into Sneaky Pete’s intimate rooms.

Boycotts formed in April 2008, played their first gig at the end of June and recorded their first demo at LOFI Studios in September. Since then the band have been played on Vic Galloway’s Radio 1 show, played Stag and Dagger Festival and supported acts such as Cage The Elephant, Art Brut, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart and Cursive. The band have recently finished recording their debut E.P @ Chem19 with producer Andy Miller. This summer will see the band embark upon two Scottish tours, first in June and then again in August to support the launch of their E.P. With a number of other developments in the pipeline Boycotts may be one band to watch out for in 2009.
