Micachu and the Shapes released their debut album “Jewellery” on Rough Trade April 7th to a huge PR scrum and debut single “Golden Phone” is still one of the most adventurous tracks of the year.

Support comes from Mercury Music Prize nominees and Sneaky Petes favourites, The Invisible, who themselves sold the venue out back in May.

JESUS H FOXX (SONG BY TOAD)
Jesus H. Foxx are a seven-piece band from Edinburgh.  They have two drummers, three quitarists, one bassist and a cornet player who sometimes plays a glockenspiel. On some songs, they all sing.

Initially starting off as a four-piece they were born in the Summer of 2007, a Summer unlike those Summers you remember as a kid, from the wreckage of several other bands you’ve probably never heard of; Buddah Crush, Hookers Green No. 1 and Sweetheart.  After acquiring a fifth member, Jesus H. Foxx went on to release a 7″ entitled ‘Tightt Ideas’ on Glasgow label Broken Friend Records, and since then they have grown in size as well as popularity.

Late on in 2008 they added an extra guitarist to their line up, and in the early months of 2009 completed the band with a cornet player, who could sing a bit, shake maracas and play the glockenspiel too.

The band have just released their debut EP, “Matter”, on Song, by Toad Records, which has already received airplay on Gideon Coe’s BBC 6 Music show as well as Vic Galloway’s BBC Radio 1 in Scotland show, and is starting to pick up interest in other parts of the UK.

Jesus H. Foxx have supported The Mae Shi, Broken Records, Crystal Stilts, Esser, Frightened Rabbit, The Invisible, AU, Dananananaykroyd, Copy Haho, and Cryptacize.

BOYCOTTS
Boycotts played their first gig in the early summer of 2008. By the end of the summer they had recorded their first demo, played a number of Scottish dates and been voted runners up Artist of The Month @ King Tuts “Your Sound” event.

Since then the band have played a live session on Vic Galloway’s Radio 1 show, opened Stag and Dagger Festival and supported acts such as Cage The Elephant, Art Brut, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Cursive and The Thermals.

Recently the band recorded their debut E.P @ Chem19 with producer Andy Miller. The E.P was released on August 15th 2009 through What If Music & Sony ATV. The next few months will see the band play a number of club nights across Scotland followed by a British tour and possible festival appearances later in the New Year.

Brooklyn 4 piece, OBITS hit British shores in October and take in Sneaky Petes on October 7th. Signed to SUB POP and one of the best punk/garage/rock bands around.

COUGAR + THE GREAT CITY

Another great band from the Ninja Tune stable. Cougar are a 5 piece each from different US states and they make brilliant experimental electronica/indie.

Tracks such as “Merit” and “Pulse Conditioner” are tracks that need to be heard by a wider audience and surely will be once the public and press pick up on their first UK tour.

NITE JEWEL @ UNTITLED

Untitled might be one of our newer clubs but it is already attracting loads of great guests and October is going to be no different

Occupying the twilit space between ARIEL PINK’s lo-fi avant pop and the codeine beats of JOHN MAUS, Nite Jewel – the performing moniker of California native RAMONA GONZALEZ – brings a gloriously original new slant to the golden age of disco with “Good Evening”, her debut record.
Although still a student at Occidental College in Eagle Rock, Los Angeles (coincidentally the alma mater of one Barack Obama), Gonzalez has been making music on an 8-track for a number of years now, slowly evolving from ambient pieces and sound and video installation art to her gradually writing proper songs with Cole M. Grieff-Neill, of HAUNTED GRAFITTI, and selling self-produced demo CDR’s at shows. Eventually, her music caught the ears of one Johnny Jewel, head honcho of the venerated ITALIANS DO IT BETTER, who released her debut single “What Did He Say” on his label last year.
