SHIELDS UP + fights and fires + hey vampires

October 26th, 2009

Started in Edinburgh in January of 2009, Shields Up are a five piece hardcore band. Jak (ex-Ben Cozine), James (ex-Today We Fight!), Jhed (ex-Ben Cozine), Kev (Taking Chase) and Linz (Secta Rouge) set out to play no nonsense hardcore inspired by the old school as much as the new.

A passion for and a desire to play hardcore combined with a relentless work ethic has resulted in Shields Up’s debut, self titled album being written and recorded just weeks after the band’s inception. The 13 track album is due for release through Wasted State Records in August October of 2009, with anotherUK tour to take place coinciding with the album’s release.

THOMAS DYBDAHL

October 25th, 2009

THOMAS DYBDAHL

Multi award winning Thomas Dybdahl is one of the most talented singer-songwriters to emerge from the Norwegian music scene in recent years and is now preparing to unleash his irresistibly serene and intimate sound on the UK.

Norwegian press have said of Dybdahl, “His delicate but lush music recalls that of Tim Buckley, Nick Drake and other forward-thinking songwriters.” with The New York Times adding “Thomas Dybdahl writes songs that move in for extreme close-ups: his acoustic guitar, his breathy voice, his vows of love…the tempos are glacial and the instruments few and pristine, so that every gesture is exposed. Anything less than total grace would turn precious and cloying, but Mr. Dybdahl maintains his poise; each song has the delicate suspense of a drawn breath.”

UNITED FRUIT + lyons + debutant

October 24th, 2009

Three of Scotland’s best new acts grace the 5th Brown Bear show on Saturday night for the unmissable price of £3.

Praise for UNITED FRUIT :
“I’ve seen them live. They are outstanding, really tight, really in your face. If you like Jesus Lizard, Shellac, maybe even at the Drive-in then you’ll love these guys. Go and see them live and get the EP Mistress, Reptile Mistress!” Vic Galloway, BBC Radio Scotland, 10 Aug 2009

“As any attendee at one of their many recent Glasgow performances will tell you, United Fruit’s rapid realisation of their potential, especially live, has been nothing less than remarkable […] It’s a boorish stomp […] escalating into barely restrained fury.” The Skinny, 30 Sep 2008

LYONS are a glasgow 2 piece that make a helluva racket.

Sometime Meursault member DEBUTANT plays a combination of simple, dreamy songs augmented by a build-up of shimmering atmospheres. Think textured one-man dream-pop.
