It’s been five years since the fledgeling Pins And Needles was found, laying in a basket, by staff outside the Red Vodka Club in Edinburgh’s Cowgate. The staff took them in, gave them some soup and tried to keep them from breaking everything that they touched. In return, like the grateful children that they are, they brought all their friends round, played their records too loud and generally acted up at the slightest encouragement.
In that time they’ve seen the venue name change, seen the staff (and their own personnel) change, they even survived their adolescent “wearing nothing but black” phase and now find themselves all grown up and still playing in a club that they love, with a sound system that they’ve consistently failed to break, and with an even wider choice of noisemaking suspects to help them try.
The past 12 months saw the shift towards live music as the mainstay of their nights, with artists like Den Haan, JakeOne, John Hospital, Findo Gask and Morphamish all turning in blinders, so the guys are celebrating their 5th birthday – and the last Pins And Needles of the year – by taking the whole night for themselves, by eating far too much cake, and probably ending up being told that they’re not too old to be sent to their room, expect tantrums…
Disco, House, Techno, Breaks, Electronica… from the underground!
