Chasing Owls are an Edinburgh based four-piece that are raising a name for themselves around their hometown and in the places they travel with their music. Their live performance sees the intimacy and sensitivity of their recorded material meet with the exciting live energy and enthusiasm that together serves to create a strong live act. The band met in mid-2010 and since then have had a very busy number of months with highlights including playing the NME’s Weekender Festival and opening for Athlete at Durham’s Fonteyn Ballroom as well as enjoying airplay on the likes of BBC’s Radio 1, Radio 2 and 6 music to name but a few. Another culmination of the band’s hard work is the creation of their first record, their EP ‘We Began,’ recorded with producer Dave Lynch over the new year in his Eastbourne studio.

Described by Janice Long of BBC Radio 2 as ‘astonishing’, Flight Brigade are a rock/folk collective formed by the coming together of two families – the Baines and the Hughes. Hailing from a sleepy Hampshire village, both family homes are cluttered with old instruments, amps and recording equipment. The children that grew up in these homes started making music together and in 2010 met with musician friends in a derelict church. Flight Brigade was born. With solid song-writing and lyrical poignancy, they combine heartfelt energy with infectious melodies and exquisite arrangements.

The Winter Tradition are a noisy pop-rock quartet from Scotland. Their energetic live performances are emphasized by various dynamics that excite and involve the audience and they have succeeded in creating their own sound that is instantly recognisable to any listener or follower. The Winter Tradition have used the combination of many artists from different backgrounds and traditions to create a blend of music that they could listen to and enjoy themselves.

With an ever fluctuating line up, based around lyricist/singer Robert Lloyd, the Nightingales enjoyed cult status in the early ’80’s as darlings of the credible music scene and were championed by John Peel, who said of them – “Their performances will serve to confirm their excellence when we are far enough distanced from the 1980’s to look at the period rationally and other, infinitely better known, bands stand revealed as charlatans”.

The group recorded a bunch of critically acclaimed singles and three albums, plus many radio sessions for their great supporter Peel – more than any other band bar The Fall. They also regularly toured the UK and Northern Europe, as headliners and supporting acts as diverse as Bo Diddley and Nico.

This tour sees them teaming up with their old pal, droll purveyor of anti-humour, Ted Chippington, who Stewart Lee cites as a major influence on his career. “It’s difficult to say who the first alternative comedian was. Ben Elton? Victoria Wood? John Dowie, if you really know your stuff? Or maybe the folk singers – Billy Connolly or Jasper Carrott? But one thing’s for sure, Ted Chippington was the first post-alternative comedian, and without him, everything would be different. Not necessarily worse. But different.”
