SHEARS

June 12th, 2019

The power and energy that emanates from Edinburgh-based Rebecca ‘SHEARS’ Shearing is undoubtedly evident, but so too are the cadences that flow at times with a shimmering sadness. SHEARS is pop music with a dark edge.

After eighteen months spent locked away writing, recording and playing noisy shows under various pseudonyms, SHEARS’ debut single ?Circle Line? is released on ?Friday 1 March?.
Growing up in Ayr, she was singing opera from the age of five, taking on piano, flute, and guitar through adolescence, all the while burying a deep love of Christina Aguilera and Destiny’s Child under stacks of notation and music theory. Having spent her formative years as a notable early star of the YouTube music community, which saw her build a vast online following, she moved to the capital aged 17 to study vocals at university, where she began writing the songs she wanted to sing.

‘Lyric writing for me is a great way to rid myself of any angst’ she explains. ‘Circle Line is about being stuck in an endless loop in a situation you could walk away from if you made the choice to. It’s about not learning, and not coming to your senses before you’re sent back around the loop again.’

Inspired by real-life frustrations and the innate desire to respond to those feelings, Circle Line was recorded at home, with the help of elusive Glasgow-based producer ‘Samson’ and mixed by Matty Green (Dua Lipa, Lady Gaga, Hurts). The track is the first in a series of singles produced in collaboration with the duo, set for release during the course of 2019.

Meet you at the Circle Line.

Guadalupe Plata plus guests

June 11th, 2019

This Spanish psyche-satanic washtub blues group are back at Sneaks. This last show was an uproarious sellout and we’re expecting the same again.

Their newly minted fifth album is “a new attempt to go further and beyond, in our crusade for regression and the idea of creating our own personal ‘Gris Gris’.” The album sees them tracing back to more traditional folk music from their home country, channeling ceremonial, ‘un-Christian’ sounds.

“We chose to delve into the sound of the wash tub as the main bass sound, a drum amplified by the minimum number of mics so that it would sound as natural as possible and an electric guitar plugged directly into an amplifier, no intermediaries that would disturb the peace in the monastery.

TEESH present Good Block

June 8th, 2019

TEESH welcomes Good Block who have been throwing parties in and around London for the past seven years at venues such as Five Miles, Brilliant Corners, Ace Hotel and The Yard. Nomadic and sporadic in form and function, their parties are centred around danceable odd-ball gems and have hosted a long list of respected DJs, including the likes of Habibi Funk, Bradley Zero, Nick The Record, Esa, Africaine 808, Jamie Tiller, Jon K, John Gomez, Cosmic Slop, Jonny Rock and DJ Okapi.

This year – after a series of DJ friendly edits issued gratis (BIG TIP!) – Good Block put out their first fully fledged EP of original material; a composite soup of influences and styles from around the Orb, trekking through slow jungle chug, cosmic Caribbean Juno jams, Japanese synth pop snares and New-Age meanderings.

Covering a wide range of dancefloor sounds Good Block’s DJ sets move across: Electro, African Disco / Boogie, S.A Bubblegum / Kwaito, Caribbean Island Disco / Reggae / Digital Dancehall, Balearic, Synth Pop, Proto House and other worldly treasures.

Resident jockey Coolant Bowser provides love and support throughout.
