For fans of… Ought
August 30th, 2022
Former Ought members create a dream landscape where punchy and exuberant guitar parts, urgent basslines, and unexpected drum patterns all tangle with each other in an elegant dance.
Cola started collaborating in fall 2019 when Darcy and Stidworthy, both formerly of Ought, reached out to their friend Cartwright, who they had frequently met on the road while he was drumming with various other projects. “It wasn’t the post-Ought band right off the bat,” Darcy says, “we really just took time to enjoy the process of collaborating and writing songs together.” The band’s organic chemistry solidified quickly after a few sessions of jamming in-person. Then, as the pandemic began, they were forced to decamp and write songs separately. Working in solitude ended up becoming a “defining color as well as a barrier” to the album, says Darcy. He notes that he wrote the lyrics to “Fulton Park” as a “dream landscape”, a sort of alternative to the frustration and depression he was experiencing at the time.
The resulting record delights in its aversion to superficiality. Although Darcy’s characteristically wry voice remains front-and-center, shifting from decisive to distressed and detached, his lyrical invocations remain only the first key to a much more intricate universe of sound and longing. Individual tracks often feel like small revelations, and each element contributes to a streamlined and yet poetically expansive set of meanings, as the rhythms of the punchy and exuberant guitar parts, urgent basslines, and unexpected drum patterns all tangle with each other in an elegant dance. Much greater than the sum of its parts, Deep in View is an album of artful and energetic post-punk that sparks novel interpretations with every listen, like an object that takes on new shape with each angle from which you hold it.

Chameleon Lady are back, returning to Sneaky Pete’s after a phenomenal sell out show in November 2021! They are ready to sell out once again and put on one hell of a show. Since they last performed at Sneaky Pete’s Chameleon Lady have performed a remarkable show at The Mash House in Edinburgh, played a live session on BBC Radio Scotland on the Afternoon Show with Grant Stott and performed a set at the Usher Hall in Edinburgh. In addition they have performed at various festivals this summer including Speyfest (July) where they shared the stage with Skerryvore, Rura and many others. Chameleon Lady have started to build a loyal and vast fan base. Be sure to pick up your tickets quickly as they will sell fast.
The nucleus of Chameleon Lady came together at school in Musselburgh four years ago, and after an apprenticeship served busking folk songs and pop music, they set about developing their writing and production skills in pursuit of a unique sound and style. The band’s first song (Home, The Highlands) quickly and unexpectedly became a Scottish festival anthem with a debut video to match, taking them to festivals in Scotland and France. An EP entitled Calling Card was then released to promote their first gigs on the Scottish circuit. The band spent the last eighteen months experimenting, writing and recording in the confines of their home studios. And now, four university degrees, fifty gigs and several costume changes later, Chameleon Lady have a new energy in the shape of an album of brand new songs freshly recorded, and a stage show ready to hit the road.

Like all the best pipedreams, STRABE first came about in the smoking area. Four year ago, whilst attending Cork Jazz Festival, Angelica Black and Emmet Carey met by chance in the smoking area and quickly realised they shared a spookily similar taste in music.
Emmet and Angelica eventually began writing together around Dublin, creating pulsing and woozy tracks that build a soft, uplifting soundscape worthy of bedroom dance parties.

Fresh-faced new kids on the block, MADDS, are a solo bedroom project turned exciting alternative 5 piece band. In the little time they’ve been kicking about they have played some well loved venues, including here at Sneaks as a part of Independent Venue Week. MADDS bring their catchy, indie-rock tunes to each gig they play, alongside their engaging stage presence
Joining MADDS are much-loved locals waverley. who, with a rich blend of Americana-infused Indie Rock, Folk-rooted songwriting, and fierce dynamic shifts, are proving themselves to be one of the most exciting and innovative new acts to arrive on the Scottish music scene. Fresh off the release of two new singles in 2021 (the anthemic, pop-tinged, indie rocker “An Encore (All I Need)”, as well as the darker, more contemplative “Missing Thing”), the band are looking forward to a bright 2022 with the release of new single, “Shore” which sees waverley. take a more folk-rooted direction, expanding upon their already diverse musical palette.
