Cal + Substandard

March 24th, 2023

Meanwhile is back for our first party of 2023!

This time round we’ve asked Glasgow’s Cal to cross the country for a late night get together. The mastermind behind ‘Hold Tight’, Cal’s been bringing mighty fine garage, house and all sorts to town since the days of Flat 0/1. A top talent, finally at Sneaks.

Alongside is Sub Standard, a Sneaky’s veteran, of acclaimed ‘Haptic’ and ‘Mind Yer Self’ crews. We’ve had the pleasure of catching a few of his sweatbox sets, it’s a guarantee he will bring sweet sweet goods.

Get down and dance!

Moonlight Zoo
Pink Limit
Róisín McCarney

March 24th, 2023

Moonlight Zoo emerged in 2016, escaping their hometown of Dunfermline to cut their musical teeth busking around the streets of Europe. The band honed their sound on the pavement, learning to sing in three-part harmony and play with ferocious aggression in order to cut through the noise of the city, before returning to Scotland to take their unique brand in of alternative anthemic pop to the big stage.

Heavily influenced by Scottish rockers Big Country, Moonlight Zoo borrow there anthemic celtic elements of there hometown hero’s and infuse it with a modern pop twist inspired by artists like Haim. Since forming Moonlight Zoo have taken their wild live shows to every corner of the UK and performed at major festivals including Isle of Wight, TRNSMT and Kendal Calling. Their first single “Breaking or Broken” was Radio T track of the week and called “…the best debut we have heard since Blossoms burst into the scene” by renowned tastemakers This Feeling.

Follow up single “Wild” was a BBC One Scotland Single of the Week and led to the band selling out King Tuts Wah Wah Hut and touring nationally. 2019 was the bands biggest year to date as they made it through multiple heats to be crowned champions of Hard Rock Cafe’s International Battle of the Bands after playing for a host of industry experts at the Paramount Theatre in Times Square NY.

MARGINS:
Madam X

March 23rd, 2023

Happy happy birthday to MARGINS!! Come blow out the candles, eat some cake and celebrate our first birthday with us and Madam X.

Fresh off the back of her BBC Radio One residency in January we’re buzzing to welcome the queen herself – international superstar Madam X. Her sound is quintessentially UK based with dark and tech-heavy beats pulsing throughout her sets along with a scattering of grime and breaks. The KAIZEN label head honcho is no stranger to radio either, having held down a 6 year NTS residency as well as being heard on her monthly show on Athen’s based station Movement Radio. From her flawless selections, to her record label, MDMXERCISE videos, and clothing brand, Madam X is a force to be reckoned with.

On support we welcome back our friends and MARGINS residents Petfood and Digging the Underground.

Revolt party co-founder Petfood is a firm favourite in the Edinburgh scene and will be warming up the night with a queer techno wonderland of hypnotic sounds.

To start your night, EHFM’s Lola and Raphaela reunite behind the decks to play out a selection of bass heavy tracks giving you a taste of what’s to come.

MARGINS is a club night created by, and for, people from marginalised communities within Edinburgh. This is a space where people can get together, dance, and feel safe and accepted – no matter their race, sexual orientation, gender identity, or religion.

At MARGINS, what matters is that you treat others with respect, love and kindness; to allow us all to rave and misbehave in a community of acceptance.

Heaters // Hypnotikk:
JKB, Hector & Felix, Discgrace

March 22nd, 2023

Ahadadream has had to pull out of our upcoming party; but every cloud has a silver lining. Filling his admittedly sizeable shoes are a handpicked selection of some of our favourite local talents and we’re so excited to have them down.

Opening up the night will be Discgrace, who we were lucky enough to catch delivering a mammoth headline set at La Belle a few weeks ago. She completely typifies the hypnotikk ethos of fast, funky and fun, and we’re gassed to see what she cooks up for Sneaky’s.

Hector has played with us a few times before, but never before has he had the privilege of teaming up with his close compadre Felix. Finally the moment has come, and for an hour and half they’ll be bringing their bounciest bootlegs to the sweatbox. Expect wide-ranging, always-grooving sounds.

JKB has been killing it in Edinburgh for a few years now, and his penchant for UKG and Electro sounds has seen him bring the legendary likes of Interplanetary Criminal, Breaka and Higgo up to Edinburgh for his wonderful Shelflife nights. Skippy drums and bouncy bass flavours are the name of the game, and Joe’s been playing it since the beginning.

It’s disappointing to miss Ahadadream, but all tickets will still be valid for a rescheduled date on the 17th May and with three amazing acts lined up, the temperature at Sneaky Pete’s is only rising. See you there xx

Dirty Sound Magnet

March 22nd, 2023

Psych Rock, Blues Rock, Funk Rock, Experimental/Progressive

After over 300 shows all over Europe, two studio albums and a live album since 2017, Swiss vintage psych-rock power trio release new next album DSM-III (March 18, 2022 on Hummus Records).

The Music – power, groove and emotion
The band’s DNA can be traced back to the ancestral ‘Golden Age of Rock’ (60s, 70s), but instead of copying past heroes, Dirty Sound Magnet worked hard on breaking new ground. The band’s approach has often been compared to Led Zeppelin for their groove, energy and instrumental virtuosity, to a more violent version of Pink Floyd and to the mysticism of The Doors. With the addition of modern psych influences (Tame Impala, King Gizzard and the Lizzard Wizard, …) and sarcastic lyrics grounded in today’s social turmoil, the DSM magic formula is complete.
Live, the band is known for its kinetic performances and strong stage presence. DSM’s dynamic range goes from all out power to moments of silence build into the music. The years of experience have taught the band to deliver solid shows night after night while leaving room for the unexpected to happen. Every show is a unique experience for the band and the crowd…

The Band – no plan B
As teenagers, Stavros (guitar, vocals), Marco (bass, backing vocals) and Maxime (drums, backing vocals) were devouring hundreds of albums while rehearsing with great intensity. This passion rapidly turned into an addiction and total dedication to their art. Years of experimentation and practice have led to the creation of the DSM sound and the DSM way of life. The plan has always been the same and it is quite simple: “There is no plan B”.

The band functions as a small family business. Every day, when not on tour, the band rehearses and records new music. After the rehearsal, the three dirty friends do what managers and big labels were doing in the golden years of the music industry. Everything is performed 100% DIY (recording, artwork and design, management).
DSM isn’t in it for the money but for the belief that music has the power to make the world a better place. Music is everything.

The History – relentless magnetic activity
In 2017, DSM released its first album Western Lies as a trio with Berlin-based label Noisolution. The results were instantaneous; with the band winning an award in the category of “best Swiss rock song” for their single ‘Homo Economicus’. Between 2017 and 2020 the band toured relentlessly all over Europe.
2019 saw the release of their epic full album Transgenic. The album established the band on the European psychedelic rock scene. In the midst of their giant tour promoting the album, Covid-19 turned the world upside down and Dirty Sound Magnet had to cancel the remaining shows of the tour. This hiatus from touring allowed the band to go back to basics and rehearse intensively. The experience gained from touring motivated them to produce a live session album called Live Alert that was released on November 6, 2020. These live recordings showcase the raw energy of the band and the musicians’ ability to improvise. To the band’s surprise, it became their most beloved and successful album to date.
During these difficult times away from stage, Dirty Sound Magnet also recorded an ambitious studio album that will be released early 2022 on Hummus Records. The band envisioned a very natural and authentic sound and therefore kept the production simple with just a few microphones and a vintage mixing desk. In the end, it turns out that the trio has never sounded more powerful and organic… 2022 will be magnetic and dirty !
