Mahuki
May 28th, 2023
Mahuki is the Edinburgh-based passion project of Czech-born fusion guitarist Honza Kourimsky, combining elements of jazz with Eastern European folk music, progressive rock, and modern-day funk. The band are on tour with the promotional campaign for their debut live album LIVE FROM THE LIVING ROOM SET, due to be released in full in May 2023. The album was captured in a one-of-a kind sell-out live studio gig/session at the Wee Red Bar in Edinburgh in December 2022, capturing the gaze of the Edinburgh music scene and establishing the acts as one of its most progressive music projects.
The collective is a septet consisting of some of the most exciting musicians of the New Wave of Scottish Jazz. On drums plays Carter Skillicorn, bass is played by Cameron Bradley, tenor saxophone features Oskar Jones, Michael Butcher plays alto saxophone, and finally trumpet features Cameron Thmpson-Duncan and Euan Allerdice who doubles on flugelhorn. The outfit is led by Honza Kourimsky on guitar.
“Brand new… high energy jazz from Edinburgh”- BBC Radio Scotland
“An exciting new entry into the Scottish Jazz Scene!… Mahuki brings a fresh dose of groove, funk, and sonic jazz to an already bustling scene. Its music for the mind and soul!”- SJ New Wave

Lionoil:
Wallace & Percy Main
May 26th, 2023
We’re delighted to welcome our very old pal and former Edinburgh denizen Wallace back to Sneaks to go toe to toe with Percy Main.
Tearing onto the scene last year with releases on Studio Barnhus, Disco Halal and his latest EP on Rhythm Section – you’ll not be surprised to know Jimmy Wallace has been bubbling away behind the curtain for over a decade, gaining dedicated support along the way from artists like Artwork, Moxie, Palms Trax, Hunee and Axel Boman. His own Tartan Records imprint has churned through 4 highly sought after hand stamped edits records, with many more on the horizon and no signs of slowing any time soon.
Way back when before Lionoil was born, we ran club nights and played together on the regular in Edinburgh, so we’re fully stoked to make the return this month after many years asunder!

Spiral Cities are a six-piece alternative pop band from Glasgow, who formed back in 2019 and have been busy crafting hook-laden tracks ever since. Scott Monaghan (lead vocals, keyboard and synths), Ross Dalziel and Andy Arthur (both on guitar and backing vocals) met and forged a union with the desire to make music. In 2020, when Fraser Haggerty seized bass responsibilities and Greg Conn took over on the drums, and finalised their line up with the addition of Max Corbett in 2022. Now, together, they each bring an equal measure of experience and skill with composition and arranging to the table. In turn, this serves their growing fanbase with a whole lot of enjoyable listens to lap up. Spiral Cities possess a commercial, melodic sound in the main, but you can bet they can turn their deft hands to work with softer, gentler elements, too. Their recipe of refined music has a unique delectability that you’ll be all too keen to revisit time and time again. From rock to pop, EDM to metal, the quintet comes armed with a plethora of influences. As fans of The Smiths, Johnny Marr, Foals, Foster The People, Sam Fender, Chic and more, you can bank on them having knitted their trademark style out of plenty of iconic inspiration. And at each of their shows, there’s a distinct focus on creating memorable performances for their effusive crowds.?
