Red Room Sound:
DJ ADHD + Smiff

June 8th, 2023

Yes that’s right, your eyes aren’t deceiving you! We have the one and only DJ ADHD joining us for his SCOTTISH DEBUT in the Red Room on the 8th of June alongside local hero SMIFF.

Over the last couple of years DJ ADHD has carved a unique sound scattered with 909s and 808s that blur the lines of techno and UK bass music, gathering support from artists such as Skrillex, Four Tet, Floating Points, Caribou, Giant Swan, Special Request and I. Jordan to name a few. Following his debut release ‘Vortex’ and more recently his ‘Steamin EP’ alongside Chloé Robinson featuring a killer remix from Four Tet (both released on Pretty Weird), his release schedule for 2023 is filling up with solo releases and projects with Crookers, Mr. Oizo, Nikki Nair, Chloé Robinson and more making sure that his club focused sound continues to be heard on dance floors around the world.

Heaters // haptic:
Bored Lord

June 7th, 2023

Very exciting announcement for our June date! We are overjoyed to bring you a booking we have wanted to make for a long time; Oakland based underground heroine Bored Lord.

Over the years Daria Lourd’s singular approach to dance music has remained consistently exploratory, irresistible and heart-wrenching. Cutting her teeth within the fiercely creative Oakland DIY scene while making art and music as part of the digital collective Rare Nnudes, Bored Lord found a home at underground club imprint Knightwerk before more recently joining kindred spirits Eris Drew and Octo Octa on their label, T4T LUV NRG.

Her sound is in constant oscillation, pinging between toothsome hardware jams, joyous pop edits, queasy bass euphoria, pleasure-center inflaming hardcore and amorous, banging breaks, all channeled towards a dancefloor philosophy that is, to use the words of Eris Drew and Octo Octa, “pressed loud and built out of love between queer and trans people…the same love we use to survive.” [FACT MAG]

Triptides
Swiss Portrait
for fans of… Tame Impala, Temples, Big Star

June 6th, 2023

With a sound oscillating between psychedelic pop and space rock, Triptides’ album “Alter Echoes” channels both The Byrds at their most hallucinogenic and Floyd at their most cosmically composed while creating something immediate and new.

The band has established itself as a preeminent part of the Los Angeles new wave psych music. With “Alter Echoes,” they pull away from the pack, thanks to the quality of their songwriting, performance and production.

Triptides is led by multi-instrumentalist Glenn Brigman, and with drummer Brendan Peleo-Lazar and bassist/guitarist Stephen Burns.

Xiu Xiu
*SOLD OUT*
for fans of… Bjork, Coil, Swans

June 5th, 2023

Xiu Xiu release the devastatingly macabre, appropriately cacophonous new album, titled Ignore Grief, due for release on March 3, 2023 on Polyvinyl.

The current iteration of Xiu Xiu includes existing members Jamie Stewart and Angela Seo, now joined by old friend and new member David Kendrick (Sparks, Devo, Gleaming Spires).

Jamie Stewart shares: “In ‘Maybae Baeby,’ the singer’s viewpoint is of a young person hiding in a fantastical conversation with a tarantula in order to escape a physically abusive parent. We were hiding within this fantasy of a fantasy, following the model of the late 1950s sub genre of

‘Teen Tragedy Songs,’ to try and find a way to come to terms with a number of staggeringly horrendous events that occurred to people close to the band over the last 2 years.”

The release of “Maybae Baeby” is accompanied by an unsettling video directed by the band’s Angela Seo, who shares: “The video is, for better or worse, about literal isolation, all the things we tell ourselves to should do or not do, forcing open a small crack and crawling deep into it, even if we know we shouldn’t, just to get away to somewhere else, even if it’s worse.”

Glass Beams
Canaan Balsam
at Legends
for fans of… Surprise Chef, Mildlife, Ravi Skankar

June 4th, 2023

The enigmatic Glass Beams radiates a unique brand of serpentine psychedelia rendered with cyclical riffs and dizzying melodies, drawing primary musical inspiration from his Indian heritage. Refreshingly, Glass Beams prefers to lie in relative obscurity, allowing the narrative to lie in the music itself. The debut EP Mirage is out now, through genre hoppers Research Records.
