MF Tomlinson
Adam Ross
for fans of… Bill Callahan, Yo La Tengo, Leonard Cohen

January 31st, 2024

MF Tomlinson is an Australian-born, London-based artist who, with his collaborators the MFs, crafts sonic worlds that draw upon acid folk, prog, jazz and ambient music – lying somewhere between Bill Callahan, Yo La Tengo, and Leonard Cohen. His second album, We Are Still Wild Horses, was released in February ‘23 on PRAH to a remarkable critical reception (???? The Times, Uncut, Mojo, The Line of Best Fit).

MF and the MF’s will play a slew of festivals across the UK and Europe including The Great Escape, The End of the Road, and Epäjohdonmukaisten Tanssiaisett with more to be announced. In the past they have supported Dry Cleaning and Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever. Tomlinson refers to this project as his final incarnation, the sum of a lifetime working on his practice which has led him (in previous incarnations) to share stages with Warpaint, Amen Dunes, Franz Ferdinand, The Polyphonic Spree and Justice and play alongside members of Metronomy, Friendly Fires, Klaxons, Tusks and Trees.

Brothertiger
Aster Yvs
for fans of… Washed Out, Tears for Fears, New Order, Toro Y Moi, Com Truise

January 30th, 2024

A windows-down car ride through the desert. Graceful surfers shredding blue swells. A suburban road lit only by streetlamps. The big round sun, shimmering over a distant horizon. These are just a few of the images conjured by Brothertiger, the stunning new album from the Brooklyn-based electronic artist of the same name.

Collecting a handful of singles released over the past year and a half, plus several unheard tracks, the album sees John Jagos, a.k.a. Brothertiger, moving through his chillwave roots and into the refined glitz of sophisti-pop, a UK-born microgenre that owes its ’80s and ’90s heyday to key releases by groups like Prefab Sprout and Scritti Politti. Brothertiger’s take on the style is pure escapism — immaculately engineered, retro-leaning songs for romantic vagabonds and urbane daydreamers alike. It might be the most impressive set of songs that Jagos has ever made.

Queen Of Harps
Fiza
for fans of… Little Simz, Lava La Rue, Greentea Peng

January 29th, 2024

Queen of Harps is an Edinburgh based Scottish / Malaysian-Chinese Rapper & Harpist. They blend poetic flow, bars, harp compositions and claim the title ‘Hip-Hop-Harp’. Exploring a multitude of genres she takes inspiration from Dub, Jungle, and R&B.

2023 saw Queen of Harps getting nationwide recognition.

Nominated for several accolades including best Hip-Hop at the SAMA’s, The Sound of Young Scotland at SAY Awards & BBC Introducing Scottish Act of The Year 2023. She also made this year’s List Hot 100.

“I think there is a pure like 90’s or Mobb Deep rap, that you just don’t hear. Which I really loved. The performance as a whole was really unique” JACK COCHRANE, THE SNUTS

Hailing from North West London, FIZA is currently residing in Edinburgh. Having developed an infectious live show, her recognition blossomed from a Sofar Sounds session in Edinburgh.

With her new offering ‘Pieces,’ she showcases her unique flair in abundance. ‘Pieces’ fuses together intricate guitar parts, heavenly backing vocals and heartwarming synths that give off that summer vibe we’ve all been craving. Her vocals are emotional, catchy and well–penned, it’s this voice that is the heartbeat of the track, and makes her sound her own. It has been featured on BBC Asian Network and BBC Introducing Radio Scotland being named their track of the week. She has now performed in Glasgow, Edinburgh, London, Santa Barbara and Los Angeles.

Right Chord Music writes you should “brace yourselves because this is just the beginning for this upcoming musician”. Meanwhile, Podcart Music Blog express that “there’s an enviable spirit that shines through her songwriting and performance”. With The Vinyl District naming her their UK artist of the week, at the end of August, “with a voice like velvet and a melody that could melt butter”.

Buffalo Nichols
Brodie Barclay
for fans of… Alabama Shakes, Gary Clark Jr, Vintage Trouble

January 28th, 2024

Since his earliest infatuations with guitar, Buffalo Nichols has asked himself the same question: How can I bring the blues of the past into the future? After cutting his teeth between a Baptist church and bars in Milwaukee, it was a globetrotting trip through West Africa and Europe during a creative down period that began to reveal the answer.
