March 15th, 2024
Between 2014-2019 East Midland’s singer-songwriter Charlotte Carpenter made her name by releasing a series of heavily championed EPs. Her raw, soulful song writing was widely heralded with comparisons to the likes of Cream, Cat Power, Bonnie Raitt, and PJ Harvey, and coverage from tastemakers from The Line of Best Fit through to rock bible Classic Rock, with support from BBC 6 Music, BBC Radio 2 and Virgin Radio; and UK-wide tours alongside (among others) Marika Hackman, George Ezra, Liz Lawrence, Eliza Shaddad, Ralph Pelleymounter (To Kill A King), Get Cape Wear Cape Fly, and Matthew Logan Vasquez (Delta Spirit).
In 2020, Charlotte set out to make her debut album which has been funded by Help Musicians UK and is set to release Autumn 2023.
Lach
David Cronenburg’s Wife
a double bill as antifolk as fckk
March 14th, 2024
“Lach’s great” – Bob Dylan
“He’s f**king funny! – Nikki Sixx (of Mötley Crüe)
Lach – Lach is the founder of Antifolk, the international phenomenon that’s been cited as a main inspiration for such acts as Beck, Regina Spektor, Laura Marling and hundreds of others. With six critically acclaimed albums (“5 stars. Splendid, best of its kind!”-Mojo Magazine), a sold-out book of poetry (“Outstandingly beautiful.”-stirlingwriter.com), a hit BBC Radio 4 comedy series ‘The Lach Chronicles’, and a featured performance in the recent award-winning movie “Meet Me In The Bathroom” along with The Strokes, Interpol and The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, it’s no wonder Timeout London calls him “NYC’s living legend.”
“A Lach show is a face-ache funny, beat-punk-unplugged joy, and likely to send you home with several favourite new songs”- The Guardian UK
“Lach is incredibly bright, influential, funny, smart, with his own counter-culture charm. He’s become part of New York folklore.” – Suzanne Vega
“I wouldn’t be playing music today if not for Lach. He’s weird, wild and wonderful”! – Jeff Lewis
“The best punk rhythm guitarist since Johnny Ramone.”- Billy Ficca of Television
“He’s an absolute legend.” –Vic Galloway
“Incredibly entertaining. The captain of our ship.” –Duglas T Stewart (of The BMX Bandits)
“Lach is the best songwriter.” – Adam Green (The Moldy Peaches)
David Cronenberg’s Wife – Described as “where genius meets idiocy” by Mark Lamarr, stalwarts of the UK version of Antifolk, David Cronenberg’s Wife have been entertaining and shocking listeners over the last two decades with their subversive story-telling. With several BBC 6Music sessions under their belt (Marc Riley and Cerys Matthews) and having supported such legends as The Fall, The Nightingales, and Wreckless Eric, DCW come to Edinburgh for the first time for a special stripped down show featuring lead singer Tom Mayne, keyboardist Mary Boe and drummer Tom Hemingtom. With subject matter ranging from the president of Kazakhstan to erotic encounters with mermaids, DCW’s dark tales continue to amuse and disturb.
‘There are songs on this album [The Ship] that really show the staggering brilliance of Tom Mayne’s writing… The stories and characters Mayne creates and explores are on a similar level to that of Lou Reed… not a comparison I would make lightly.’ (Louder than War)
‘Mayne goes further than them [Mark E. Smith & Nick Cave] in the fearlessness of his lyrics … Mayne’s skill, like Vladimir Nabakov or Neil LeBute, is to create a convincing character who can say the most unpleasant things and cause a reaction.’ (Sounds XP)
‘Bitterly humorous… a mix of 80s Fall and the Velvet Underground.’ (NME)
‘A breathtaking musical and emotional rollercoaster ride… they’re a law unto themselves.’ (Sounds XP)
‘The kind of thing late ’80s Peel sessions were made of.’ (WORD magazine)
‘David Cronenberg’s Wife are wicked.’ (Lias Saoudi, Fat White Family)

March 13th, 2024
1-800 GIRLS continues to reserve a space of his own in the speed lane of modern dance music.
Maintaining the sense of vulnerability and nostalgia that made his earlier releases on ubiquitous raw house labels Shall Not Fade and clipp.art so cathartic, on his latest run of releases 1-800 GIRLS offers up a warming concoction of ravey breaks and sentimental sonics that prove he’s a producer just as proficient at making club tracks to dance or cry to. The EPs form the first of a series of new releases aligned with his debut live show, coming here this March.
