Capollos

March 21st, 2024

The Capollos are a young, exciting, award winning alternative rock band from Aberdeen. Live, The Capollos are a ferocious force, combining melody, energy, swagger and a coolness that borders on effortless. These many qualities have led to comparisons with some of the bands that have influenced them such as The Arctic Monkeys, Kasabian, Catfish & The Bottlemen and Britpop legends Oasis. Their burgeoning fan-base has grown through several high-profile support slots with the likes of Cast, The Pigeon Detectives, Kyle Falconer, The Snuts, Neon Waltz, Alan McGee, Shaun Ryder (Happy Mondays), The Sherlocks, Chris Helme (The Seahorses), Mike Joyce (The Smiths) and they also performed a special acoustic set at an Elton Johns VIP party at Aberdeen’s Exhibition Centre. Further recognition and accolades are expected with the recent release of their eponymous E.P. The Capollos, which was described by Sound Wave Review as having ‘…thoughtful lyrics, groove & contagious melodies…’.

Long time no see….but we are back on the 20th with i-sha – one of the minds behind crazy label and party, Accidental Meetings!

Noods resident and co -curator of Bristol’s iconic (!) En Masse festival, i-sha has been able to develop her own musical style, warping through dubwise pressure and scuzzy textural realms merged with experimental electronics.

Sitting between dizzying frenetic sounds and slower, deeper hypnotics which you can hear in her recent mix for Fact Mag 🙂

£5 tix at the moment and if you are unable to join us due to lack of funds, please do not hesitate to email membranenite@gmail.com!!

Rare Club:
SUCHI + J Wax

March 19th, 2024

Suchi makes her Sneaky Pete’s debut….

Last year included sets at By.Larm, Fabric, Warehouse Project, Sonar Festival, Lost Village, Field Day, ADE, an Australia tour supporting Jon Hopkins and a Boiler Room India tour with Parris and Nikki Nair.

As a producer, SUCHI peppers her productions with flavours from all the places she’s lived in (Oslo, London, Delhi, New York, and now Manchester). Whether it’s Norwegian Sami Joik fused with broken beat or soft tabla percussions weaved into ethereal vocals, she continues to define her sound through the musical inspirations she grew up with.

Her DJ sets follow a similar suit resulting in a crisscross of genres that span across house, percussion, bass and techno. With close links to artists in her hometowns, SUCHI continues to explore her passion for global dance music with a focus on Scandinavian and South Asian artists.

SUCHI’s debut EP ‘Swift’ released on Coastal Haze received critical acclaim in DJ Mag, Mixmag and Resident Advisor. Her single ‘Seher’, featuring the vocals of Qawwali singer, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan premiered as Mary Anne Hobb’s ‘Near Future’ track on BBC R6. This year, she’s set to launch her label where she’ll continue to hone in on her productions and showcase artists she’s passionate about.

Don’t miss on this one.

Bull
Rosewood
Mumbles
for fans of… Yuck, Pavement, Pixies, KEG

March 17th, 2024

York five-piece Bull make infectiously melodic guitar-driven slacker pop that’s just too charming not to keep coming back to again and again.

Recorded with Pavement sound engineer Remko Shouten in his Amsterdam studio, their debut full-length skips joyfully through a nostalgic, coming-of-age haze of adolescent tribulations: infatuation, loneliness and self-loathing, tempered by the odd curry and cheese toastie. They’re back for their debut headline after supporting FEET here in June 2022.

mustbejohn
Finn fm
for fans of… The Streets, Loyle Carner, Tom Misch

March 16th, 2024

Vividly painting the picture of British street-life, mustbejohn blends laid-back electronic production with deft songwriting to make perfect listening for long summer days and early evenings.

mustbejohn’s latest “Losing Balance” EP sees a stylistic and thematic shift from his earlier work, with John conveying an elevated level of personal and musical maturity – his rhymes bleed poignancy, tackling topics like romance and nightlife through mature coming-of-age narratives that flaunt his vocal prowess further than before. It’s hard not to make comparisons to Mike Skinner’s grasp of club tropes and homespun wisdom, but we reckon John’s marking out a whole new lane of his own.
