The Fat Stacks
The Academics
Niamh Corkey

December 4th, 2023

Weaving together a fusion of classic rock and modern alternative, the Fat Stacks are a dynamic new Edinburgh based band, led by the charismatic front man Declan Gibson.

After forming during a jam session at the cities central, Illium café, Marchmont, the band have begun taking the scene by storm and are eagerly looking forward to revisiting the intimate grass roots scene at Sneaky Petes very soon.

The Academics – A hard to pin down rock power trio with a unique combination of screaming vocals and funked up rhythms, interspersed with tender ballads. There’s something for everyone, but an enjoyment of Hendrix, John Mayer and Foo Fighters wouldn’t be remiss.

Niamh Corkey – Niamh Corkey is a 22 year old singer-songwriter based in Edinburgh, whose writing effortlessly floats between musings of folk, indie, country and jazz. Each style is comfortably bound together with the ethereal command of her voice. Niamh delivers harrowing hooks, heavenly harmonies and holistic storytelling to her listeners.

CANCELLED
Eve Simpson
The Let Her Be Free Christmas Party
Sarah Owens
Callum Pitt

December 3rd, 2023

Fresh from her top-selling Edinburgh International Festival Fringe showcase, collaborative community artist and songwriter Eve Simpson has been reaching audiences across the country with her Geordie-Scottish folk/pop stylings, chosen as BBC Scotland’s Track of the Week earlier this year. Eve returns to Sneaky Pete’s with an early Christmas party, and a stellar line-up of surprise, festive guests, to celebrate a triumphant year selling out her debut London headline show, playing major Scottish festivals: Edinburgh Hogmanay and Celtic Connections, and embarking on her first UK headline tour, with the support of Help Musicians. Featured across BBC 6 Music, BBC Scotland, BBC Introducing, and Frankie’s Amazing Radio show, she has supported artists from the Elephant Sessions to Martha Reeves & The Vandellas, landing editorial playlists and scoring the North East segment of a FOCAL International award-winning film.

Sarah Owens is an Edinburgh based , Irish singer/songwriter who draws a lot of inspiration from the indie/folk scene. She has been playing in Edinburgh on and off for 9 years. During this time she has collaborated with other Edinburgh based musicians which have taken her to very exciting places, such as a mini European tour and singing backing vocals for Mike McKenzie at TRNSMT. After taking a break for a couple of years she had her debut for Sofar Sounds in Edinburgh during the summer which reignited her love for performing her originals live. She’s so excited for Eve’s Christmas party, it’s going to be such a magical night

Callum Pitt is inspired by the rawness & honesty of artists like Elliott Smith, Julien Baker, Adrianne Lenker & Sufjan Stevens, Callum Pitt imbues his indie-folk with a grand, orchestral, chamber pop sensibility plus an alt-rock edge. Despite using music often as a canvas to openly discuss depression & anxiety, as well as political unrest, Callum still manages to imprint feelings of optimism and unity – alongside genuine warmth & honesty – throughout his songs. His debut album ‘In the Balance’ was released on 2nd June 2023.

28-year-old Pitt has been working on his craft for over a decade, beginning as a teenager in the Newcastle pub scene & gradually refining his thoughtful, poetic songwriting voice, leading to festivals such as The Great Escape, Deer Shed & The Long Road and support slots with Donovan Woods, Adia Victoria, Jordan Mackampa and Cattle & Cane. Callum’s development as a songwriter has been recognised with accolades such as ‘Alan Hull Award’ for songwriters in 2019 & the ‘Fender Player Plus’ competition in 2022. As a result of his tireless work ethic, as an independent artist, Callum has amassed over 6 million streams, with releases landing on Spotify’s ‘New Music Friday’ playlists 17 times & received airplay from BBC Radio 1 & BBC 6 Music.

Meanwhile, he’s studying a masters in Occupational Therapy & has worked with children, young people & adults with disabilities through various outlets, including therapeutic music work, giving him a new perspective on the cathartic & unifying power of music.

EHFM presents:
Lucky Dip & YBZ Collective

December 2nd, 2023

We are delighted to be hosting two of EHFM’s young teams, residents old and new, LUCKY DIP and YBZ COLLECTIVE!

Cowgate queens of hard dance Lucky Dip have been dominating the Edinburgh scene and beyond over the last year with their infectious high energy sets, ranging from Jersey and Latin tek to gabber and hardstyle. Their Sneaky Pete’s residency is continually pushing boundaries with guests such as Colombian 2AT and Mutt Klub’s flirty.lollipop33.

Exciting new residents YBZ Collective cut their teeth playing upstairs in The Bongo Club for the legendary Mumbo Jumbo and have smashed appearances at Kelburn Garden Party and Postal Sunday’s. They’re going to be bringing UK bass, garage and breaks to the first half of the night.

As always, proceeds go towards keeping the station running!

See you there!

JOHN
Casual Drag
for fans of… IDLES, Mclusky, Metz
at The Mash House

December 2nd, 2023

Four arms, four legs, two heads, wood, metal and plastic. JOHN. It’s a cryptic and unsearchable band name but it serves an important manifesto. Not only is it logical – with the duo being comprised of John Newton (drums/lead vocals) and Johnny Healey (guitar/backing vocals) – but it’s deliberately mundane, a response to the sensationalism that was often promoted through rock music when JOHN began playing together in 2013. Drawing inspiration from the DIY approach of independent enterprises such as Dischord Records, the pair formed in London’s East End opting to self-manage, self-release and self-distribute, adopting an ethos that’s served as an antidote to the reality of the day jobs required to exist in an ever-inflating city. The band released their debut LP God Speed in the National Limit on their own imprint Pets Care Records in 2017. Critical praise swiftly followed and led to invites to support likeminded peers including IDLES, Mclusky, Viagra Boys and METZ.
