MATT NORRIS AND THE MOON

March 3rd, 2011

mnatm-bw-123Matt Norris and the Moon are an Edinburgh-based folk band with a lively sound, the odd beard, an unusual collection of instruments and tight harmonies. So far they have played alongside artists like The Villagers, Rachel Sermanni, Alphabet Backwards, Dry the River & Kitty the Lion as well as appearing at The Edge Festival, Folk Festivals, on Jim Gellatly’s new music podcast and getting an ‘Artist of the Week’ Feature on Amazing Radio. Occasionally they swap songwriters to form other bands like ‘Caro Bridges and the River’ and ‘The last of Barrett’s Privateers’ who have supported The Vaccines.

Admiral Fallow, formed in Glasgow, are a gathering of precocious talent fronted by the young foot-stamping, faintly maniacal singer/song-writer Louis Abbott. They are fiercely proud of their roots with Abbott’s Scottish accent to the fore in his singing, contrasting magically with the Northumbrian tones of Sarah Hayes, the second vocalist. The band melds clarinet, flute, double bass and two jaw-dropping voices to the usual indie line-up to deliver their joyous, heart-filled, orchestral, beautifully eccentric and well crafted songs.

You may have been lucky enough to catch them touring with friends Frightened Rabbit earlier in the year.

penguins

Formed in the winter of 2008 Penguins Kill Polar Bears ply their hope-drenched post-rock to anyone that cares to listen. The band were born from a mutual love of good music including bands such as Aereogramme, Silverchair, Appleseed Cast and The Smashing Pumpkins, and have themselves grown into quite the beast.

Their sound is that of a band as unafraid of pop as they are grunge and heavy rock – catchy but completely uncompromising in their crescendos and massive drum beats. With loud and soft dynamics and live performances which are honest and powerful with equal measures of restraint and excess. Penguins Kill Polar Bears performance will never translate to words without losing some of it’s energy and vibrance.

This will be Numbers party #2 at Sneaky’s. Since then resident Jackmaster has been voted DJ Magazine Best Breakthrough DJ Award, and Bleep.com (Warp’s online partners) has awarded them Label Of The Year.

“For those who don’t know… Numbers is our party hailing from Glasgow which has been running for six+ years. We’ve packed crowds into sweaty basements and thousand-strong raves booking our musical heroes to play alongside our crack team of resident DJs. We’re proud to be in the middle of a Glasgow music scene that has never been stronger – Optimo, Rubadub and the LuckyMe collective are testament to that.

Our music policy swaggers from techno to hip-hop, via 80s R&B screamers, house, electro, UK funky, dubstep – anything that excites us and makes a party, providing it’s programmed in the right order. Over the years we’ve matched acts like Modeselektor, Kode9, Actress, Untold, Joker, Hud Mo and Rustie with founding influences – Dopplereffekt, Smith N Hack, Ghostface Killah, Autechre, Lory D and Squarepusher.

Thanks to you we’re now in year six and still putting on the best new producers alongside Numbers favourites.”
