Avast! was formed in 2004 by three friends in Scotland. They play indie rock from the east side of Scotland… Dundee to be precise. They recorded a demo EP, an album called ‘Faultlines’ and have been lucky enough to play shows across the length of the country from Inverness to Brighton and everywhere in between.

Avast! features members of Glasgow band Stapleton. Formed in 1997, they have toured with Hundred Reasons and Idlewild, released four albums and two EPs most recently ‘Rest And Be Thankful’ through Xtra Mile Recordings in 2008.

Definition is delighted to present a live performance from Alex Smoke. This will be his first live show in Edinburgh since 2009. Currently on a something of a world tour taking in locations as diverse as Mexico, Serbia, Japan and Switzerland, it’s exceptionally rare that Alex Smoke plays live to a crowd of just 100 people and that intimate experience is what will be in store for those who come along to Definition on 23rd July.

Alex first came to prominence in 2002, and was subsequently signed to Soma for whom he released two fantastic, critically acclaimed albums Incommunicado and Paradolia before he followed Euan Pearson & Luciano in mixing volume 3 of the Sci.Fi.Hi.Fi. series. He has recently setup his own label Hum and Haw from which he released his third album (Lux) last year. Somewhat less dancefloor orientated than the previous two albums, it has still received very good reviews and number of tracks have however received more up-tempo remixes by Alex himself and are being aired in this format at his live performances.

Alex also recently created a new score for FW Murnau’s silent film adaptation of Faust which was shown at the Glasgow Film Festival this year, and a “stripped techno” version of this may be released soon through his Hum+Haw label and you never know we may well hear some advance previews at this performance.
