[04-04-2014] Edinburgh’s Cowgate Sector:

Two shady producers combine forces and emerge from the shadows with an array of hybrid, uptempo sugar-rush beats they affectionately call ‘duke’ (i.e a little more refined than your average juke).

This stealthy debut appearance is, in part, to celebrate the fact that they’ve completed an EPs worth of material over the past 2 months – with fresh tracks appearing on the likes of LuckyMe’s RinseFM show, OOUKFunkyOO’s notorious YT channel & music news outlet Do Androids Dance.

A healthy start for some complete unknowns – all well and good – but will they defeat their first boss level… the enigmatic fighter known only as SNEAKY PETE?

BRIDIE JACKSON AND THE ARBOUR, Gilmore & Roberts, Heg & The Wolf Chorus,

March 27th, 2014

Folk quartet Bridie Jackson & the Arbour are refreshingly unpretentious and movingly soulful, “the lushness of Norah Jones with the quirkiness of Joanna Newsom”, haunting folk melodies held aloft by Jackson’s ethereally beautiful, spine-tingling voice.

UNITED FRUIT, Black International, Birdhead

March 24th, 2014

UNITED FRUIT are four humans from Glasgow and they make blistering punk infused rock with a pop edge that’ll slice your stupid finger off if you’re not careful. BE CAREFUL. Fast becoming one of the best live acts in Scotland, their new album is poised for release, and they’ll be pumping the room full of beautiful brand new songs.

BLACK INTERNATIONAL are from Edinburgh, there are two of them, and they produce what has been described by Radar as ‘industrialised post-punk’, but they prefer to say NEW WAVE PUNK ROCK NOISE POP with a sarcastic smirk.

BIRDHEAD, again a duo, are a drums/synth/guitar experiment in krautrock with pulsating riffs, motorik beats and jagged digital doodles. Often unpredictable, always hypnotic.
