JARROD DICKENSON with Andy Tucker
February 15th, 2015
Texas-born songwriter, Jarrod Dickenson’s slightly spooky melodies and lyrics invoke a mid-Western post-war America, when cars ran on leaded gas, television hadn’t yet kidnapped the country’s imagination, and men wore hats every day. His reflective lyrics, almost like hand-written letters, remind us that human stories of lost love, sudden fortune, and abiding mystery transcend the decades…and nothing is better or worse right now than it’s ever been.
TEESH’ Valentine Dance with DJ Cupid
February 14th, 2015
In classical mythology, Cupid (Latin Cupido, meaning “desire”) is the god of desire, erotic love, attraction and affection. He is often portrayed as the son of the love goddess Venus, and is known in Latin also as Amor (“Love”). His Greek counterpart is Eros.[1]
Although Eros appears in Classical Greek art as a slender winged youth, during the Hellenistic period, he was increasingly portrayed as a chubby boy. During this time, his iconography acquired the bow and arrow that represent his source of power: a person, or even a deity, who is shot by Cupid’s arrow is filled with uncontrollable desire. In myths, Cupid is a minor character who serves mostly to set the plot in motion. He is a main character only in the tale of Cupid and Psyche, when wounded by his own weapons he experiences the ordeal of love. Although other extended stories are not told about him, his tradition is rich in poetic themes and visual scenarios, such as “Love conquers all” and the retaliatory punishment or torture of Cupid.

They have performed at various venues from the legendary Glasgow Barrowlands to underground parties. Over summer The Twistettes performed at a number of festivals including Kelburn Garden Party, Loch Lomond Boat Party and Audio Soup as well as a free party in London. Now they are about to release the debut single, ‘I Think Not’ with a run of Scottish dates including a support with The Coathangers and a massive single launch party at the Glasgow University Union.
