INDEPENDENT VENUE WEEK 2017

January 3rd, 2017

Independent Venue Week is a 7 day celebration of small music venues around the UK and a nod to the people that own, run and work in them, week in, week out.

These venues give artists their first experience of playing live in front of an audience and for fans, somewhere to get up close to artists that one day, may well be playing stadiums and festival main stages.

Supported using public funding by Arts Council England, Independent Venue Week brings together these venues along with breaking and established artists, promoters, labels, media, bloggers and tastemakers to create a nationwide series of gigs at the end of January.

These venues are the backbone of the live music scene in this country and Independent Venue Week wants to recognise all that they have done to create some of the most memorable nights of the past so they can continue to do the same in the future.

Our program this year is on our front page here beginning Monday 23rd January!

Sneaky NYE: Gerd Janson *early!*, Telfort, Juice DJs

December 31st, 2016

Gerd will play from 10pm til 12.30am, so get down early and join us for the bells. Then stick around for the party at Sneaks or come down to Leith to see The Black Madonna.

Using odd music to turn parties inside out is a Gerd Janson speciality. He gets known as a DJ’s DJ but what you’re really getting is a smiling guy playing all your favourite records you didn’t know existed. Oh yeah and he runs one of the most important dance labels of the decade, Running Back.

Taking us through til 5am are some of the best of the club’s residents. Telfort, Kami & Dan will be working on a theme of “Belters”, which seem to be quite popular at this time of year.

Living Body, Invisible Dears

December 18th, 2016

Living Body is the new project from Leeds-based Chicagoan Jeff T. Smith (formerly, Juffage) featuring longtime collaborators Katie Harkin (Harkin, Sky Larkin, Wild Beasts, Sleater-Kinney) and Tom Evans (Vessels). Rising from the ashes of their acclaimed “Sonic Cauldron” concert at Left Bank Leeds in 2013, the group is now augmented by new and additional live members Alice Rowan (Mayshe-Mayshe) & Sarah Statham (Esper Scout). Expanding on the need for music to bring joy into the lives of others, and Smith’s fascination with the contortion of the pop song into a uniquely imaginative and immediate form, Living body aims to exist in a world of skin and information overload in 2016.

Invisible Dears is the brainchild of Melbourne multi-instrumentalist and Singer/Songwriter Thomas C. Baud. Drawing inspiration from his musical upbringing, Invisible Dears is the culmination of Thomas’ Folk, Psychedelic and Rock roots.
