London four-piece Childcare’s three and a half minute song ‘Kiss?’ is thrilling alt-pop, as sharp and singular sonically as its irreverent subject matter would demand. Kicking on over a rotating vocal/guitar hook and powered by crisp, rhythmic new wave. The subject matter finds Childcare main man Ed confronting the nature of regret and shame, as engendered by a very British social interaction.

“There are buskers that will make you cry, they’re so good”, according to cult Americana artist Andrew Bird. “And then there are buskers that will take you to a place where sound and energy merge to create a kind of spiritual ecstasy, a joyful affirmation of life itself.” CC Smugglers, who have made the transition from the street to the stage with consummate ease and considerable acclaim, exemplify the latter, and then some.

One of our favourite young acts of recent years are really coming of age with the imminent arrival of their second album. Think of them as exchange students with Sunflower Bean, picking up stateside guitar crunch to balance out their melodic songwriting.
Rolling Stone magazine says:
“Sounds Like: Tough, ragged Nineties indie-rock revivalism with just the right amount of anthemic lift to push them beyond the basement.
For Fans of: Jawbox, Lungfish, Unwound, other bands that scraped at their angst with jagged guitars and body-confusing post-punk charge.
Why You Should Pay Attention: The teenage trio from Nottingham, England had a bit of a coming-out party at this year’s Glastonbury festival, where they made good on U.K. hype built on their artfully retro sound and an ebulliently downcast live show. The band will be releasing their debut full-length soon and, if their great 2014 single “It Knows It” b/w “Adjust the Way” is any indication, it should be a fun little bummer of a record.”
