“A warm embrace on a chill winter’s morning…SBTRKT-like production and a soulful croon.” – Mixmag

“Sublime post-James Blake pop” – The Fader

Jack Ritchie has honed in on a distinctly unique blend of emotive electronic music, future garage and lofi house music in his meticulously crafted productions. He has collaborated with Tom Misch, and amassed remixes for the likes of Bastille, Gorgon City, Odesza. With a breadth of material that covers both melancholic, introspective gems and intelligent club-ready cuts, his live show is a step above.

808INK + K4cie + Billy Got Waves

November 21st, 2018

808Charmer & Mumblez Black Ink are a producer/rapper duo from South London with a totally fresh approach to UK Rap, working from inside hip-hop out to Dub, Bassline, Psychedelia & Reggae.

They have been compared to both Odd Future and Outkast, both for their lyrical dexterity and their natural tendency to push boundaries and veer way out of genre.

This homegrown talent has had recent chart success on Spotify, hit #3 on the UK Top 50 Viral Charts, and had constant spins on BBC Radio 1 / 1xtra, Beats 1, Rinse FM, all without any major label machine directing them, and it looks like the hype is only going to get bigger.

We are proud to be a PRS Foundation ‘Talent Development Partner’ and with their help we have been able to curate our ‘New Waves’, ‘Night Music’ and ‘Central Belters’ programmes.

Ali Robertson + Callum Ross

November 20th, 2018

With nods to beat driven nu-soul, Ali Robertson’s first handful of singles have so far received over a million streams across all major digital music platforms, as well as gaining radio play on stations such as BBC Radio Scotland, KCRW and Amazing Radio.

Global music blog Indie Shuffle likened Ali’s sound amongst the ranks of Chet Faker, Honne and Bob Moses, describing him as a “mature artist, poised for a whole lot of attention”, with smooth vocals, perfect mixing and irresistible melodies.

LALA LAND: Lala + Ben Ashmore

November 19th, 2018

“Sneaky Pete’s, a club where I first witnessed Mr Roy Davis Jr take control. The limited capacity proves for a really intimate experience, a club I always hoped I would be able to play in & here we are.

I’ll be playing all night long with Ben Ashmore one of my favourite Edinburgh selectors! Music policy? No policy or limitations really but I’ll predict a-lot of soulful Chicago house, melodic Detroit techno & rare disco finds.

I really can’t wait for this. See you on the dance floor.”

November 19th, 2018

Independent Venue Week is a bit like Record Store Day, but for music venues, and it’s a week, not a day. You get the idea.

Our fourth Independent Venue Week is definitely our most punk rock one so far, with amps and attitudes turned up to 11.

We still have a few acts yet to announce, but here’s what IVW 2019 looks like so far:

Jan 29 Brigid Mae Power
Jan 31 Rascalton + Strange Bones
Feb 1 Fresh Produce presents Feral Family
Feb 2 Heavy Rapids + Special Guest
Feb 3 Fabric Bear + Shredd

Coaltion: Ahmed Crawford

November 18th, 2018

Badmed’s back.

Since 2014 Ahmed has been working alongside midweek favourite Hector’s House, who have been responsible for many of the capital’s top drawer parties and are celebrating their 6th birthday shortly. Past guests include Optimo b2b Domenic Cappello, Eclair Fifi and Earl Jeffers so keep your eyes peeled for that.

Over the last few months he’s had the chance to play out at All Under One Roof ft. Ross From Friends, Mash House’s Cowgate Foodbank Fundraiser, FLY Club and his stomping ground Hectors House.

Sneaky Pete’s has been one of my favourite venues since moving to Edinburgh and I’m really excited to get on the right side of the decks for the best Sunday party in town.

Support from Believe from 11 – 1am.

Entry is Free. Booze is Cheap. Dancing to make you sweat.

Wasabi Disco – “The Mission is Terminated” with JD Twitch

November 17th, 2018

It is with great pride and more than a little self-glorification that I present to you the last Wasabi Disco. Great pride? Well yes, Wasabi Disco is the club that almost never was, or perhaps never should’ve been…? Born out of a mis-timed birthday party, it was only meant to be a bit of fun, a one off, “let’s just see what I can get away with….” Basically somewhere I could play tunes and styles that I like and felt were underrepresented in Edinburgh. If it worked great, if not who cares……….. But fucking hell it worked!

On Saturday the 17th November Wasabi Disco will turn 10 years old. During those 10 years we have seen and done many things… Like the time Daniel Wang had all the bar staff singing their favourite song onstage in an impromptu American Idol at 4am in the morning, or the time somebody crashed into the decks on stage knocking 2 Technics, 2 CDJs, a mixer, a laptop and about 20 drinks all onto the ground completely ruining the soundcard resulting in Nick Stewart having to leave the bar and DJ for the rest of the night on a spare CDJ! Or the time I couldn’t get through the crowd from behind the decks only to be hoisted up and crowd surfed towards the bar. We saw Wasabi Disco being named as one of the best clubs in Scotland by the List Magazine and included in its Hot 100 list, pick of the week a couple of times by The Guardian, Time Out and The Skinny, we got mentioned on 6 Music and put in Mixmag’s top 3 clubs (twice technically but couldn’t afford to put their photographer up in a hotel the second time so we got dropped… no biggie!).

Wasabi Disco opened the doors for me to DJ in many other clubs and festivals, enabled me to write the occasional article for magazines (Hacienda DJ Dave Haslam would later get in touch to include quotes from one of those articles in his book Life After Dark) get interviewed by Boiler Room and supply photos for DJ Magazine and French magazine Trax.

We have hosted legends like Twitch & Wilkes from Optimo, DJ Brainstorm, Bill Brewster, Prosumer & Andy Blake. We have seen the likes of Daniel Avery and Jayda G go from behind Wasabi’s decks to headlining huge festivals, we have given DJ’s like Kris Baha, Violet and San Proper their Scottish debuts and Young Marco, Wolf Muller, Hashman Deejay amongst others their Edinburgh debuts. We have booked the notoriously difficult to book (DJ Fett Burger & Sotofett) and have witnessed wild live sets from Happy Meals, Octo Octa, RAMZi and Gabe Gurnsey from Factory Floor. We’ve had DJ’s from some of the best record labels around (Ari Goldman of PPU & Future Times, Shit Robot of DFA, Chuggy & Jamie Paton of Emotional Especial and Anton Maiovvi of Death Waltz). We have hosted local legends like Fudge Fingas, Linkwood, Auntie Flo, Astrojazz and not so local legends David Barbarossa, GK Machine and Billy Woods and soon to be local legends Wolfjazz, Cassavetes, DJ Cheers and Yves.

But all that being said, it was never really about the DJ’s: it was about not taking yourself too seriously, playing music we believed in, month in, month out, releasing yourself from the darkness of life and having a big fuck-off party. And to you, the dancers I am truly grateful.

So it IS with great pride that I announce the final Wasabi Disco.

WASABI DISCO IS 10 YEARS OLD WITH JD TWITCH!

Thank you for dancing.

“I want to be with you everywhere”

THE MISSION IS TERMINATED…..
