Artwork + Austin Ato + Hand-made at The Caves

October 22nd, 2021

Artwork doesn’t get by on charisma alone, but it doesn’t hurt that he’s one of the most entertaining raconteurs around. From Berghain to Printworks and Warehouse Project, he’s always in demand.

He spent a decade producing records behind the scenes (including the all time biggest garage crossover hit Daniel Bedingfield’s “I Gotta Get Thru This”). He mentored a teenage Skream and Benga, later forming world-touring group together as Magnetic Man. He’s put out dozens of hard-to-find techno records, mostly under the title “Untitled” and would freely admit he’s no idea what his catalogue is, under various producer names most notably as Grain.  And then the remixes… after a Grammy-nominated mix for Mary J Blige he turned clangers into bangers for Adele, Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey, Rihanna.

His 2016-2019 Art’s House parties (we’ve hosted 2) showed off his all-night cross-genre abilities in a chintzy living room setting, turning techno and acid into the most joyous party vibe, rare disco, uplifting house, and unexpected gems into a living room.

A BBC Radio1 residency and bit more world touring later, Art played a landmark residency at XOYO, and then on to one of the most iconic settings ever, Pike’s Ibiza where he held court for a long summer.

Pre-lockdown he decamped to NYC, from where he’s flying over for this one.

Vanishing Twin
presented at The Bongo Club

October 22nd, 2021

Experimental British pop ensemble Vanishing Twin are led by London-based musician Cathy Lucas (FanfarloMy Sad Captains). Previously working under the name Orlando, Lucas fashioned unusual electronic-based compositions and conceptual pieces that were released over a series of cassettes before forming Vanishing Twin in 2015.

Enlisting collaborators Valentina Magaletti, Phil M.F.U., Elliott Arndt, and Susumu Mukai, Lucas and her new band worked with producer Malcolm Catto (DJ ShadowHeliocentrics) to record their debut album. Released in 2016, Choose Your Own Adventure melded elements of retro-’60s pop, minimalism, jazz, field recordings, and various other esoteric styles into a voice all their own.

Following a pair of short-form releases (2017’s Dream by Numbers EP and 2018’s cassette Magic & Machines), Vanishing Twin reappeared in 2019 with their second album, The Age of Immunology, a multilingual protest against the increasing xenophobia in the U.K. and around the world.
