Postal with Martyn Bootyspoon + OISÍN

April 24th, 2022

Montreal’s Martyn Bootyspoon makes sexed-up club music with a razor-sharp sense of fun, dedicated to turning genre conventions inside out. He’s also one of the funniest cats we know.

Marrying influences ranging from booty house and ghettotech fixtures like DJ Assault and DJ Funk, Chicago house and sexed-up RnB to grime, Bootyspoon holds it all together with his baritone growl. His critically-acclaimed 2018 debut EP on Fractal Fantasy preceded appearances on LuckyMe, Model Future, and Local Action’s 2 B Real imprint.

Behind the decks the energy is high. Digitally slick grooves rub up against body bending beats, fed through club filters and manic tempo changes. Add in a sprinkle of classic party edits, his sets whip up the hottest crowds into a fever haze frenzy.

He joins us for Postal, our weekly Sunday session with cheap tickets for the hottest names in underground dance, and our pick of Scotland’s finest selectors.

April 23rd, 2022

Rachel Chinouriri is a singer/songwriter from Croydon, her family moved to the UK from Zimbabwe not long before she was born.

Rachel’s traditional African upbringing led to curiosity about her British cultural surroundings, and as a teenager she fell in love with acts such as Daughter and Lily Allen as well as the developing London Rap and Alternative scene. Rachel’s ambition blossomed early and at the age of 17, she wrote and recorded a number of tracks on her mum’s laptop using a £20 microphone and dropped them on Soundcloud.

Rachel has also proved her prowess as an incredible live performer, whilst supporting Celeste, Sam Fender and Lianne La Havas, as well as selling out her biggest show to date at Moth Club. In 2020 collaborative release ‘The River Bend’ with Subculture, was championed by Michaela Coel during her critically acclaimed series ‘I May Destroy You’, when it soundtracked a pivotal scene in the series.

The Natvral
For fans of… Ezra Furman, Lou Reed, Vampire Weekend

April 20th, 2022

As the frontman of The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Kip Berman wrote songs about the thrills and ills of young adult life with the care and concern of a cool older sibling. In the years since he made his last record with his former band, Berman discovered an unvarnished, broken folk rock sound in The Natvral – a marked departure from his previous work.

Recorded over 7 days with producer Andy Savours (My Bloody Valentine, Black Country New Road, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart), his debut solo record Tethers is as raw in sound as it is nuanced and empathetic in its lyricism. Without effect pedals, overdubs or even a metronome, the resulting album feels free and unpretentious, recalling the strident obliqueness of Bob Dylan and Neil Young’s sonic primitivism – but drawn from a set of vividly detailed experiences all Berman’s own.
