Mildred are a band that happened the way the best things do – slowly, naturally, without any grand design. Four friends in Oakland, California: four singers, four songwriters, four voices with equal say. Singer-guitarists Henry Easton Koehler and Jack Schrott, singer-bassist Matt Palmquist, and drummer and producer Will Fortna started playing music together in a living room before and after dinner, the kitchen and the practice space sharing the same open air.
Nobody appointed a leader.

Nobody drew up a plan. Songs just came.

What makes Mildred genuinely unusual is not just the music – though that is quietly extraordinary – but the people making it. Jack is a PhD student in sub-atomic physics. Will is an environmental lawyer. Matt is an architect who spent a year in a Benedictine monastery. Henry works in affordable housing and helps his dad grow beans. These are not people chasing fame. These are people who found something real together and had the good sense to follow it.
Their debut EP mild earned praise from The Guardian, The Line of Best Fit, Clash, DIY, and Uncut. Their debut album Fenceline, released in 2026, has been called one of the year’s most endearing sleepers — melodic folk-rock with sharp, literary lyrics, gorgeous vocal harmonies, and a warmth that feels lived-in rather than constructed.

Mildred are proof that the best bands don’t always arrive with a bang. Sometimes they just appear, fully formed, from someone’s living room.
