April 8th, 2023

I haven’t made an album since 2010. I decided to stop pursuing music several years after my sixth record, Outlaster, because of unhappiness, overwhelming chaos, mental illness, and my tragically dysfunctional relationship with Kennan. Creating music had always been a positive outlet during difficult times, but eventually it became a source of absolute misery.

Kennan, a cat, and I lived in a studio apartment in NYC for 25 years, finding ways to survive while making records and going on tours. Our apartment was the place where people would come stay, eat, drink, play music, and use our tub. We loved each other. We were each other’s family, but there was ongoing abuse, control and manipulation. We hid. We were lost.

On January 26, 2020, I made the decision to separate and live apart, and on January 27, Kennan died by suicide. I can only feel sadness and guilt about it. Maybe I’ll have other reactions to it later on.

Riderless Horse documents the grief, but it also marks moments of empowerment and a real happiness in discovering my own capability. Steve Albini produced this record with me. The three of us are old friends, and we did a field recording in a guesthouse built like a lighthouse that two very dear friends of mine have in Esopus, NY. It was exactly the right environment to work on this record. We all had meals together, cried, laughed, and told stories. It was perfect. It made me realise how much I love writing, playing and recording music

Miss World:
Ell Murphy

April 7th, 2023

We’re so excited to welcome Ell Murphy to our musical beauty pageant! The Team Woiby resident is known for her stunning vocals – singing live over her DJ sets as well as working with some of the most well regarded producers in UK dance music right now. This has sparked her spectacular rise over the last year, earning her a Rinse FM residency and an appearance on HÖR.

With thumping garage releases in collaboration with the likes of DJ Crisps, Ollie Rant and Daffy, and euphoric breaksy numbers with Angel D’lite, you can expect a night of the very best in the new wave of UK dance music.

Support from residents Aphid & Feena!

Please respect your fellow dancers – all are welcome at Miss World. We operate a safe space policy, and a zero tolerance policy towards homophobia, transphobia, racism, sexism, ableism, creepiness, or just being a downright shitebag in general. Anyone found to be being a shitebag in any of the above ways will be immediately removed from the premises. Respect your fellow dancers, don’t assume people’s pronouns and keep your hands to yourself (unless you’re given obvious and explicit permission of course)!

You can ALWAYS approach Miss World DJs (we’re normally next to the booth) or venue staff if you feel uncomfortable or unsafe. If you have had too much to drink, lost your pals or just want to be around safe people, come and find us to hang out or we can help get you a taxi home.

Our bathrooms are gender neutral the night of our event so please respect each other in choosing what feels comfortable.

Sneaky Pete’s is accessible, however there are no accessible toilets – patrons are welcome to use accessible toilets at the Three Sisters just along the Cowgate. Please get in touch with us or Sneaky Pete’s if you have any questions about accessibility in advance of the event.

Volens Chorus:
Bluetoof

April 6th, 2023

Coming hot off the heals of our sell out show with Papo2oo4 + Subjxct 5, this month Volens Chorus are bringing back a fan favourite and good friend, Bluetoof, who last came out to play with us in December 2021.

Since then Bluetoof has been tearing it up all over Europe and over the airwaves holding down his Rinse FM residency as well as teaming up with fellow famed selector Jossy Mitsu forming a supergroup to rival the likes of Cream and McBusted, BLUMITSU.

Developing and honing his sound has also been on the London based DJ and producers mind as well as starting his own label, INFA RED. Last time Bluetoof graced the Sneakies booth the energy was amazing and we know with the Volens Chorus fan base ever Growing we expect more energy, more sweat and more erratic dancing.

The Bonnevilles
Figurines
for fans of… Black Keys, Gene Vincent, White Stripes, Band of Skulls

April 4th, 2023

The Bonnevilles are a no-frills guitar-and-drums two-piece from Northern Ireland who play hard-hitting roots music they call “garage punk blues.” Formed in Lurgan and Banbridge in 2009, the Bonnevilles feature guitarist and singer Andrew McGibbon, Jr. and drummer Chris McMullan. McGibbon was a blues fan whose take on the genre was turned upside down by R.L. Burnside’s raucous collaboration with the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Ass Pocket of Whiskey. After checking out like-minded acts like the Immortal Lee County Killers and the Soledad Brothers, McGibbon decided to start doing some blues wailing of his own. Teaming up with McMullan, the group began playing out and in 2010 released their debut album, Good Suits and Fightin’ Boots. As the band toured in support, both McGibbon and McMullan struggled with the death of a parent, which informed the duo’s second LP, 2012’s Folk Art and the Death of Electric Jesus. As the Bonnevilles continued to tour the U.K. and Europe, they shared stages with the likes of Bob Log III, the Black Diamond Heavies, T-Model Ford, and Kid Congo Powers. In 2014, the band documented its powerful live show with the album Tape Saturation Overdrive: Live in Belfast.
