Paper Aeroplanes are a Welsh indie-folk-pop outfit, led by songwriters Sarah Howells and Richard Llewellyn who have been making music together for over six years. In 2009 they released their debut album “The Day we ran into the Sea”.
The album with its distinctive sound under Sarah’s breathtaking vocals was described by the BBC’s Adam Walton as “brilliantly crafted and stoked from a bruised heart’s embers”, and “the finest radio album to come out of Wales since Rockferry”.

Since its release they have made the Radio 2 playlist and toured extensively, playing alongside acts as varied as Ron Sexsmith, Ed Sheeran, Gossip, Alessi’s Ark and Chris Wood, as well as securing a live session with BBC Radio 2′s Bob Harris.

The 2011 mini-album “We are Ghosts” received more critical acclaim:

“With songs this good, Paper Aeroplanes deserve a far wider audience.” – BBC Music’s Robin Denselow,

“Album of the Month” Maverick Magazine
and being picked for The Guardian’s F&M playlist.

Recent support from Huw Stephens on Radio 1, Lauren Laverne, Nemone and Cerys Matthews on 6Music, Steve Lamacq and Bob Harris on Radio 2 and the enduring support of Radio Wales mean that things have gone from strength to strength for the West Wales duo.

Paper Aeroplanes are taking those words that you hear in your head and shooting them across the ether. Come fly with them…

“Paper Aeroplanes are an oasis of gravity in a cultural desert of frivolity, of emotion in a cold hearted world. If you’re not in tears by the end of A Comfortable Sleep then you’re either a Stalinist dictator or a statue. 9/10 ” – Paul Kerr, 405

“Intimate, jaunty and confident lo-key pop with great melody .” – The Guardian

“great, memorable songs and a voice that’d charm a piranha” – BBC Radio Wales

“My favourite welsh combo since a slice of bara brith and a cup of sweet tea”

Auntie Flo’s productions have been causing a recent stir receiving support from Ricardo Villalobos, Gilles Peterson, Andrew Weatherall, Caribou, Tensnake, Jackmaster, Joy Orbison and Pearson Sound, the later of whom liked it so much he asked if he could remix it (due out in March on H&P). Auntie Flo’s Future Rhythm Machine mini-album drops this April on H&P.

The Auntie Flo Live show launched in 2011, with a mini-UK tour supporting the likes of Spoek Mathambo, Debruit and Nicolas Jaar, and a headline slot at legendary club Melting Pot’s sell out New Year’s Eve Party winning them further support slots on the Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs tour in 2012

One half of TNGHT alongside Hudson Mohawke, Lunice Fermin Pierre II has taken over the asylum because his sound is crazy, his vibe is inconceivable, and his appeal boundless. You might recognise his all-dancing charismatic bad self from Azealia Banks’ 212 video.

He’s here as part of Witness’ 1st Birthday, Noisey presents, and also repping LuckyMe. He shook the house down on a Monday night last year, this one should wreck the block.

Taking cues from Autechre, Bangladesh, Dilla, and the Ed Banger clique, Lunice managed to craft his own recipe which makes dance floors bump and bass bins thump. He’s put out remixes out on prominent labels such as Mad Decent, XL Recordings, Young Turks, Big Dada, Top Billin’ and a recent solo EP entitled STACKER UPPER which was released on the Scottish Based label LuckyMe.

£3 / members free.

This is an all-new live band, different members to previous appearances. Expect an excitingly different show!

Depending on whom you ask, Matthew Dear is a DJ, a dance-music producer, an experimental pop artist, a bandleader. He co-founded both Ghostly International and its dancefloor offshoot, Spectral Sound. He’s had remixes commissioned by The XX, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Spoon, Hot Chip, The Postal Service, and Chemical Brothers; he’s made mixes for the Fabric mix series and Get Physical’s Body Language. He maintains four aliases (Audion, False, Jabberjaw, and Matthew Dear), each with its own style and distinct visual identity. He straddles multiple musical worlds and belongs to none—and he’s just hitting his stride.

Matthew Dear’s 2003 full-length Ghostly debut, Leave Luck to Heaven, is a suite of sparse, wickedly funky house laced with Dear’s deep, distinctive vocals, and includes the much-loved single “Dog Days” (voted one of Pitchfork’s Top 100 Songs of the Decade). The record was met with rapturous acclaim from both the dance-music establishment and the critical press, including a four-star review in Rolling Stone. Dear’s 2007 follow-up, Asa Breed, is a considerable departure from Heaven’s dancefloor excursions, incorporating the polyrhythms of Afrobeat, the irreverent pop sensibilities of Brian Eno, and the austere beauty of Krautrock. More four-stars reviews followed (Q and Mojo magazines), and Dear subsequently began touring with a live three-piece band, Matthew Dear’s Big Hands, in which he acted as frontman, commanding the stage with a Bryan Ferry-like swagger and a gentleman’s grace.

Today, Matthew Dear finds himself in a unique position. His highly anticipated fourth album, 2010’s Black City, is the culmination of years of hard work and experimentation, a darkly playful sound-world that envelops the listener like the arms of a malevolent lover. After over a decade of exploring pop’s outer limits, Matthew Dear now inhabits a rarefied corner of the musical universe: no longer tethered to any one genre, respected by his peers, and blessed with a bottomless well of creative energy. Now is Matthew Dear’s moment, and it sounds like nothing else.

JMC Events presents a gig featuring Darc, The Hex and Forest Fires (acoustic set). The gig is in aid of HELP FOR HEROES charity and tickets are only £4! Tickets are available from the JMC Events team so get in touch with us by emailing jmc.events@hotmail.co.uk or catch us on Facebook http://www.facebook.com/#!/events/120329408090936/

Darc are an exciting, fresh, new live electronic band
that are ready to send shockwaves throughout the music industry with the intention of taking electronic dance to the stage. They have already exploded into the Scottish music scene, being played on BBC Introducing and playing a live session for Ally McCrae on Radio 1.

Forest Fires are blazing a trail on the Scottish music scene and set to make 2012 their year. Since forming in Aberdeen in June 2011, the quartet, now based in Edinburgh are delivering an infectious and original alternative sound that is astounding crowds and critics alike. Influences such as At The Drive In, Muse and Queens of the Stone age are evident in tracks such as Culture Shock and Turn Around Sally, but more experimental work such as Recovery has also been exceptionally well received. Recent high-profile performances across Scotland including Edinburgh’s HMV Picturehouse, Aberdeens Snafu and Box in Glasgow look likely to be the spark Forest Fires needs to ignite a loyal following.

Hex are anEdinburgh based alt. rock band, formed in the summer of 2008. The band has performed at various local venues throughout Edinburgh. Hex perform a mixture of original material and cover songs, and their musical influences include Muse, Queen, Radiohead, Justice and Sigur Ros. They have already produced two four-track demo cds and are currently busy writing and rehearsing material for further recordings.

Anderson, McGinty, Webster, Ward, and Fisher are a swarthy batch of young cronies made up from the parts of Dundee’s recent hot bands – The Law, Luva Anna and Magdalen Green. Their secret is a blend of three enigmatic songwriters and singers thrown together into one melting pot.

Described as a breath of fresh air, both musically and in their approach to their audiences, they maintain a humour and humility that many bands just cannot harness. The line up of instrumentation they employ hints at the unusual sound they have harnessed – bouzouki, mandolin, harmonium, double bass, autoharp – the list goes on. Folk, hip-hop, rock and country are not genres that are normally associated with just one band.

Since August 2011, they have been quietly refining their live set and preparing their eponymous debut album release Recorded almost completely live in just three days by Robin Evans at the legendary TPot Studios, it is the first release mixed at the brand new Gardyne Studios in Dundee by Mike Brown.

The album will be launched in spectacular style with a groundbreaking multimedia gig at the Gardyne Theatre in Dundee on Saturday, January 28. In just a few short months, local warm-up performances have helped them build a partisan following, meaning that tickets for the launch are already in massive demand and YouTube is overflowing with fan videos.
