Retiree [Rhythm Section International] live show

May 23rd, 2019

Retiree are three Australians responsible for some strongly rhythmic and emotional music. We connected with them through Bradley Zero’s Rhythm Section International label (who run some of the best DJ parties anywhere).

“a whole lot of criss-crossing rhythm” – The FADER

“swirling synth flourishes, languid wistful vocals and strut- ting drum machine funk” – The 405.

Retiree are not a straight up dance band though. Their new album explores the theme of “house or home” and what that means in present day Australia for different people. They journey from an aboriginal tent embassy on the south coast of New South Wales, a retirement village, a one room flat in Ringwood and a sleepless 17 hour stop over in Malaysia.

Their live set throws all their keyboards, guitar pedals and woodblocks on stage, resulting in a fascinating arrangement of sounds that carry the lyrical content superbly.

The Luka State

May 22nd, 2019

The Luka State

“Supergrass crossed with Kasabian? I think they’re very much better than that”, Tom Robinson, BBC 6 Music

“This is huge, it is really good, really really like it!” Chris Murray, Amazing Radio

“They really know how to write a tune”, Gordon Smart, Radio X
This North West band just might be the hardest working unsigned rock act in the UK right now. In the 4 years since they formed they’ve toured the UK, Europe, North America and worked with producers from Alan Moulder (QOTSA Villains) to Dave Eringa (Manic Street Preachers) and Chris Sheldon (Foo Fighters).

Their latest single, What My Problem, is a modern British take on the classic grunge sound and caps off a successful trilogy of tracks released in rapid succession since September 2018.

Prettiest Eyes + Choka

May 20th, 2019

John Dwyer from Oh Sees has helped bring this menacing hurricane of a psyche band to further attention. In his words:

“They are captivating, they are odd, they make strange and interesting choices…futuristic and yet drawn from the same sonic sludge that all mankind derives from.

“They live and breathe early Los Angeles punk vibes while still innovating at every turn.

There is electricity in this sound.”

Sonars

May 19th, 2019

Sonars are a two-piece Electro-Psych outfit from the UK and Italy. The band consists of Brighton-born Frederick Paysden and Serena Oldrati from Bergamo.

Their live performance revolves around their loop stations which they use to recreate their songs layer by layer, drawing inspiration from Alt Rock, Psych Rock and Trip Hop.In 2018 they released a new single which was played on several UK radio stations, followed by official showcases at SXSW (Austin, TX), Canadian Music Week (Toronto, ON) and an extensive UK tour. After a busy festival season, they went on to support Thirty Seconds To Mars and Mike Shinoda (Linkin Park) at the open-air Milano Rocks festival in September, performing before a crowd of thousands of people.

The Nude Party + Pinky Pinky + The Raeburn Brothers

May 18th, 2019

Fresh off a full US tour with Jack White, we’re thrilled to have these guys touch down at Sneaks.

The Nude Party started as a band playing house parties in the buff at North Carolina’s Appalachian State University at the 505 House party spot. Word of their rawness and good times spirit spread with them when they moved to the New York Catskills where they worked with early mentor and producer Oakley Munson of Black Lips.

They make simple songs heavily influenced by mid- to late ‘60s classic rock, with nods to country and honky-tonk. They are most definitely a party band, but they do it so well because they mainline the Classic American Songbook.

The Lutras

British Rock foursome The Lutras formed in Dumfries, Scotland in 2016. Two years hitting the live circuit playing over three hundred shows to impassioned audiences across the UK, has seen The Lutras master their live set, build a strong fanbase and forged their very own unique sound which sits somewhere between Rock and Pop.

Clements & Heron’s songwriting displays fine examples of their influences on debut single ‘Run & Hide’ released on 22nd November ’18. The first release has seen the band’s fanbase grow from strength to strength with a sell out 350 cap hometown show at The Venue(Dumfries) in December to a sold-out support slot with Vida at Liquid Room, Edinburgh (800cap).

The band are currently locked away writing and recording demos to take into the studio with Bruce Rintoul (Twin Atlantic, Fatherson, The Lapelles) with at least two new singles planned for release this year.

Crocodiles + FREAKWAVE

May 16th, 2019

This is Crocodiles’ first Edinburgh show in four years and we’re thrilled to have them back.

From San Diego, California, Crocodiles have made a career in thrall to a fuzzed-out wall of sound with soaring choruses buried under avalanches of echo. They are more Phil Spector than My Bloody Valentine, their guitar distortion and keyboard throbs still hurtling into the 3 minute pop song finishing line.

However much reptilian cool they conjure up, they are essentially a passionate and romantic band, but there is definitely “something of the night” about their kind of love.

Crack Cloud + NOV3L

May 15th, 2019

Vancouver’s Crack Cloud make a dark and cranky kraut that has a potent release, channelling punk spirit into a taut and wire-tight sound.

They have a changing cast, usually seven members, and are also a mixed-media collective making their own extraordinary videos and artwork.

Modelled around harm reduction philosophy, Crack Cloud operates as a rehabilitative outlet for a revolving cast of multi-disciplinary artists across Canada.
