THE ILLERSAPIENS :: Live 8-piece funk and hip hop at NU FIRE – FREE ENTRY

Monday, August 23rd, 2010

Finally the UK has a Hip Hop instrumental band to champion in the form of The Illersapiens. Here to break the current wronged perceptions of Hip Hop as violent and sex orientated music, the vibrant 7- piece quartet from south London generate positive vibes wherever they venture. Returning to the backbone of the culture, through addictive horns, drums and base to uplifting and beautifully moving vocals from new soul talent Katie Brian (Rinse FM) the band hold the essence of a good party in their fingers. Instigator and rapper Mr Man completes this charismatic bunch with insightful, fun and velocity wordplay.

The Illersapiens’ sound is unique and one that fuses all the best bits of Reggae, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Broken Beat and even dance elements like House and Drum n Bass with sounds from the metropolis they call their home. It’s no wonder then perhaps that comparisons to US greats like The Roots, Digable Planet’s and Arrested Development keep flying in from all corners.

Already famous for their live shows up and down the country, and gaining a colossal following of critics and fans a like, they have recently gained the deserved support and salute from certified talent finder Ras Kwame. Having recently been invited down to perform at the legendary BBC Maida Vale as part of his Homegrown show.

Elevate, the groups first EP, consists of 5 feel good tracks offering an honest pulsating window into their influences and passions. From the inner city romance of ‘Sweetness’ and addictive rhythmic ‘Bap Bap’ to home inspired ‘Brixton’ each song mixes sweet harmonies, thought provoking lyrics with energy explosive noise.

The Illersapiens have a monthly residency in Brixtons Ritzy cinema every first Thursday of the month.
